90 AWD Talon. The car ran, and drove. I drove it around the yard 1 day and then stopped. I then went to back it up and nothing happened. The car just won't move. I can pull it outta gear and roll it back, as a matter of fact, I can leave it in gear and roll it back. When I let out on the clutch the car rocks back about an inch and thats it. It will idle and rev just fine in gear but not move. I jacked up the left rear of the car and turn the wheel. The drive shaft turns with the car in gear. I did the front the same way and it wouldn't turn at all. I let the car down and it drove again. I drove it around the yard and the same thing happened. It won't drive now. I pulled the xfr case off and the output shaft just slid out too. I'm missing some balls ;) in the tranny. My question, is if the output shaft retaining ball is gone, will that cause my issues, or is my VCU or front diff out? I can't figure it out. I figured if the diff was out it'd pop, or make noise and not work. But it doesn't do that. Twice it's driven around the yard, and twice it just stops. No pop or smell of burning clutch or anything.

If its the VCU where can I get one? If its the front diff, is the mitsu kit the easiest and cheapest fix? Also if it could be either, would a spool "fix" the issue until i can afford to replace the trans, vcu or front diff?

I know its a newb question, I just want the car to run and drive. If its going to be a complete trans replacement, the car will go into storage for at least a few months till I get moved.

thanks guy.

try turning the wheels ALL the way in one direction when you're trying to drive it in gear...if it 'clunks' then it your Center Diff. in the trans. also if you're missing that retainer ball, i would hafta say that, Yes, i probably will cause a lot of problems because that shaft will move in out of the center diff and VCU so easily with just the slightest amount of force...i would think about trying to get a new ball in there then try and see how it works out. hit me back.

car now will drive w/o stopping. However, how it will drive, but when i accel it won't pick up speed. The speedo climbs but the car doesn't move as fast as it says it is. I tried the turn all the way bit and didn't hear any clunking. Help?
