So, as I was driving from my father's house. My car start to jerk alot and then slow down alot. I turn off the car and turned it on and it went about another 2 blocks but really slow and stop altogether. I pop the hood and check for any signs but none. I tried once more in drive and reverse and the lower gears as well but it did not budge one bit at all just rev up all the time. My guess is the tranny went south. Now is that correct or can I test something out to see if it's something else. If it's the tranny, how much will it be to replace or rebuild. And can someone point me the right direction?

750-1500... Factor in parts (buy your own!!!) type of tranny, what you're plans for future upgrades are (might as well replace clutch and cables) Aamco... not a clue. these are quotes I've received from various places in various towns... NYC is probably gonna be expensive...
hopefully it is around that range. I'm doing the rebuild with them for now because I don't have the time or place. To do it and I need a car now. But down the road I'm going to automotive school in March so, I can rebuild everything again with better parts. I was planning on going for 300 - 350 HP maybe more down the line. But that's when in done with the school.

Sounds like you are going the same direction I am... Gotta know how to work on these Diva's

I was pissed at first but realize how much some of us actually put into our car just to make it right makes me feel so much better. So, far with this transmission rebuild is like the major thing I did. The only I replaced so far was front passenger control arm and axle which cost me only 100 to fix. When I bought the car for 1800 all stock. So, why not keep it and do the swap and mod it to hit at least 12 - 13 on the track

Any updates or details on pricing from the tranny shop? Sucks to hear another DSm is down :ohdamn:

Not yet, should hear from them today.

I'm on my phone using tapatalk so, I'm limited to searching so, I wanted to know if anybody knows a link on how to take the transmission out and how to take it apart for a rebuild.

Damn Aamco want to charge 2500. But found another place that will do it for 850.

They are telling me I need a new torque converter, clutch and a band besides other small thing. How much does torque converter cost?

I thought you had an automatic... $2500 is way too much... Might as well find DSM @ junk yard pull and place into DSM...

What is the place thats willing to do work for 800 saying needs to be fixed?
Just so you know, this is going to take time, so might as well be patient in finding the right place/person to do it...

I thought about the samething. Also, lately I acquire a small garage of a friend of the family I know, he charges 120 a month so ima store my car there and they I'm do a auto to manual swap instead. I was able to find a GST 5speed tranny but still looking for a GSX tranny.

I don't think that will work... Parts are different for GSX and GST. There is also a difference in 1g and 2g trannies... I THINK... I'll look. Get the GST tranny... If its work a damn. Doutedly the donor car isn't running... So you have to rely on owner selling you a pos, or trying to simply get rid of something they do not need...

Ask for milage on tranny, what kind of clutch used, how often the tranny fluid was changed... See what kind of setup was run on the car. Stuff like that.

The car I just bought was originally an auto, and previous owner did a 5 speed conversion... ACT2900 clutch, plus cables. He said it wasn't too bad or hard. The hardest part was placing clutch pedal... Anyways, my car shifts like a champ. When you do this, you'll love it...

Glad you aren't shelling out $2500 to Aamco. That is outragious. :notgood:

2g engine=7 bolt
1g engine=6 bolt
So 1g tranny will not work on your 2g.

I'm pretty sure trannies are year specific also...

Based on what I read, GSX tranny will "fit" into GST...
You are looking into a lot of work either way... Good Luck

you can't run an AWD transmission. You also can't run a 1g transmission. You are limited to only a 2g GST tranny

Why can't I run a awd tranny? I will just have to get the suspension off a gsx among other thing. And also, where is the 1g and 2g tranny statement coming from. Im getting a 2g 5speed tranny. I never mention 1g

If you try running a GSX transmission without a rear end installed in the car, then the viscous coupler inside of the trans will transfer all of the power to the rear and your car will not move more than about 5 feet.

Have you tryed to just change the filter and fluid in your trans? What you're describing is a stopped up filter.
