car wont go past 4k driving

while im driving the car will not go over 4k, feel like its hitting a limiter. iv done a boost leak test, spark plugs are gaped at .28. new NGK wires, i dont know what it could be.

also do you need a tune if you have a FMIC?
do you still need to re-circulate the BOV?

I hate to tell you, but the only time I have had this happen, it was the ECU with leaking capacitors. I would check the ignition wires to make sure they are put on in the correct order, if you removed them. The FMIC along with any other set up,(unless maf-t, vpc, etc.), you have have to recirc. Read the newbie area. I would take out the ECU after other checks and open it up and look for the stained areas on the mother board. Good luck

Are you running a chipped ECU? It sounds like you are hitting the launch rev limiter.

i had the same problem.. i ended up having a shit load of water in the intercooler and i was sucking water. it would be good till about 3-4k and then would just sputter then nothing

its got a stock ECU, ill swap it out with a friends and see if thats the problem. and for the brick wall its not fuel cut, that hurts haha.

oh by the way, i got the car with a blown .20 over motor. could he have done something to the ecu without a safc?

what year ECU would work on my car? its a '92 talon tsi 6bolt

You pretty much want to stick to 1991 and 1992. The 1993-94's have forced EGR check I believe. You also want to stick with a 5-speed ECU if your car is a 5-speed, because of the different injector size. A 1990 ECU will work, but you need to swap pins 6&14 in the harness, and the tach signal isn't compatable, so you will never get a CEL for a misfire.

ok its not my ECU, it ran the same with my friends. and i pulled out my spark plugs and one was wet in gas. so im thinking its my coil pack? ### years could i use the coil packs from

91-94 for sure, I'm not sure about 2G coilpacks. The oddball is the 1990 coilpack.

i had the same problem wiht my 99 GSX but all we did was switch the spark plugs and it worked perfectly after that

I had pretty much the same problem with my car. It turned out to be the ECU some of the capicators were leaking. Hope this helps

Good to hear, you can check the coil by pulling the MPI fuel inj. fuse and have someone crank the car with the wires pulled. You will have to pull the plugs and put them back in the wires,(first try new plugs or clean them) touch them to the valve cover and look closely when someone cranks a couple rotations. This will tell you if you have spark. If you have good spark, just pull inj. and swap one with the other, or different one. Put everything back together(fuse) and narrow it down to injector or coil. It is a little time consuming, but you can narrow things down and get just the part you need. Ask your buddy if you can try his coil pack if yours is bad.
