taking apart the timing side to try and find a loud noise that has recently developed. down to the nitty gritty and trying to hit TDC. well, i am cranking it over by hand but it is like it is getting stuck on something. i investigated everything that i can see, i dont see where it is getting hung up. i have to use a 3 ft breaker bar to get past it. i have past the spot 2 times and am at the third but stopped in case something is seriously wrong. i dont think the timing has skipped, but could you bend a valve by hand or are they sturdy enough to hold against human pressure? any ideas on what could be holding me up. probly not since it is mostly a "be here to look" situation but thanks for any help i can get.

With a 3 foot breaker, you can bend your valves for sure.
How do you know your timing is on?

He was reffering to valve timing, not ignition timing. Chances are your engine is fubar'd. Check to see if all of the timing marks are lined up correctly. Turning the engine over by hand with a 3ft breaker bar is not a good idea.

Use a big-ass screw driver to pop the rockers off of the valves, then the cam will no longer force the valves down as you rotate the motor.
When the mark on your crank says you are at T.D.C. on #1, do the marks on the cam gears line up?

You bent your valves. Thatd be my guess. The biplane sound you are hearing is because there is only compression on 2 cylinders

but i did a compression test after that sound started and it was 180 across the board. havent run the engine since? not to be a dick, but do valves bend themselves. maybe me forcing the engine to crank over by hand with the breaker bar bent some, but they were fine at least when i did the compression test.

oh yea, forgot to mention another strange thing. it didnt make any loud noises during the compression test, when it was cranking over, it sounds normal. it only made that noise when it was actually running.

Let me know when you fix your problem because I got similar problems too. I recently replaced my Head gasket, slap everything back together, aligned timing marks and it kinda sound funny when the motor is on. Hey, I took it for a test drive....when i got to 25mph I heard my turbo spool up really loud!! and then 'poof' a cloud of white smoke came out. That was the last time my turbo made any noises  My boost gauge don't read any boost and I can't get up to 4K rpm because it sounds like my engine is gonna explode. :(

Someone told me my timing is still off.....and I may have blew my head gasket again :(

umm.....that is not quite my problem, but nice try. move along now, there is nothing to see here.

i am going to remove the tbelt and move the engine to tdc manually, after that, i will hope that she turns over and runs like a champ. if not, new valves are in order and some cams for good measure.

Hey, i found out why my car was sounding wierd.. I forgot to clip the timing belt on the cam sprockets when I aligned the marks. My car sounds fine now.
