I have a problem with my buddy's 2g 6 bolt swap. it was running perfectly. then the other day it randomly wouldnt run right. when you go to start it, itll run for about 5 seconds, then sputter and die. sometimes it doesnt start at all. ive tried so many things and im stumped now. at first i thought it was a fuel delivery problem. i sprayed starting fluid into the intake and it would rev up fine but then it would die after the stating fluid was used up. so i went and swapped out a different fpr, fuel pump, and fuel filter. after i tried all of them it still didnt work. so i figured it was something with the air then. i swapped the maf which did nothing. at this point i already checked for spark and fuel. so just to double check i rechecked the spark and the injectors. every cylinder had fuel and spark. i tried different spark plugs and spark plug wires. this also didnt work. i pulled the ecu to check for damage. the ecu appeared to be good. it had no smell or leaks. i ordered a map sensor to see if that could be the problem. i dont know what else to try. any one have any ideas what the problem could be? thanks in advance

Have you checked the ignition timing? Is the idle screw adjusted correctly? Is there a fuel smell, like it is flooding?

If you have verified fuel pressure with a pressure gauge, and spark at all 4 cylinders, as well as removing the fuel rail/injectors to verify they are being energized. :hmm: Is the intake blocked? or any vacuum leaks? A large vacuum leak could have that effect.

And finally cam timing? Just throwing things out there.

Thats why I asked if there was a fuel smell, or alot of unburned fuel coming out of the exhaust when it does run. A coolant temp sensor could be bad in that case, enriching the fuel so much that the engine cannot run. You could unplug it and start it to see if it makes a difference. Obviously do not drive it, but just to see if that is the fault, there are tests that could easily be done with a multimeter if you have the service book/cd.
