car tuner doesn't work??

I have a aftermarket kenwood cd player. I can play cds real clear and good. But when i turn in on to the radio all i hear is static and sometimes maybe somemusic ad then it would disappear as though it lost frequency. Can some knowledgeable person help me?

is your antena hooked up/extended? mine isn't, and it does the same thing your saying... but I can listen to the radio if im in the city where the radio station is.
