ok when i bought my car i was happy that it had 2 1os in the back and like a week after i was playing some music w/ bass and i noticed that the left one does not work. the right one does. the are 10" lightning audio subwoofers, i dont know if that will help or not. i looked in the back and the wires are the the right slots. so now for my question, does anyone know what might have happened or what should i check?

If all connections look good, try removing the non working sub from its enclosure and follow from the terminals on the sub box to the sub itself and make sure thats all tight. If they are, look from where the wires meet the sub and follow those exposed wires from the terminals to the voice coil. Often when subs are beaten on the solder on those on the voice coil end can come undone from the heat and vibration of prolonged use.

Unplug the working sub and put the non working one in the working one's terminals. If it STILL doesn't work, the sub is blown. If it does work, check the fuses. Depending on whether or not your amp is a 2 channel, 4 channel, or mono, check you rheadunit.

Try to push on the sub, see if it moves freely. Does it pop when playing music or does just nothing happen? Theres fuses on the amp, normally the same side where the output signal is for the speaker. Pull them and just see if the bridge is broken.

Ok, I have installed around 5 sets of subs in cars, and done a total of 11 different installations.
My guess is you used the SUB hook ups from the back of the deck, so make sure the audio cords are hooked up, make sure the REM wire is connected good, make sure both audio cords are hooked up in the amp, look at the amp, make sure your speaker wire is connected to the amp, check the ground, and the fuse. If it is still now working, take out the sub from the box, and make sure the wires are connected inside the box. Like from the plug in, to the speaker.

To add another thing, if you pull the sub the smell will instantly tell you if you blew it. And a easy way to check the RCA cables from the back of the deck is to switch them going into the amp and see if the other sub turns on. If it does it means that the other RCA cable worked loose from the back of the deck.

Why is this is the appearance section?Get a volt meter and figure it out.Audio is about as basic ad it comes in terms of electrical knowledge. If there is power at the amp and one speaker is on than the amp is obviously working so I'm not sure why other beginners are telling you to check the rem .If the two are bridged than clearly its a bad connection inside.Pretty simple stuff.

Is it bridged? If it is then yes its obviously inside the box. If its a two channel amp one channel can fry leaving the other working, it has happened to me. DO NOT put the amp/ohm meter on the output of the amp, it will mess it up.

Agreed this is the right section, post up updates as you run through them so we can keep trying to track down the problem. Have you tried any suggestions yet? If so any luck

ya i was just outside trying everything you guys have said, the wires are all connected, the fuse is fine, i changed the wires around and the wires are fine sub does not work, i took the sub out and everything looked alright. my guess is that its blown

Did it smell burnt? Normally subs smell terrible when they blow. Did you try that sub with the connections of the working sub?

i didnt smell anything and i did try the wires from the working one and it still didnt work, the right one worked with either pair of wires i hooked it up to, you know a song w/ bass and it moves, well the left one doesn't but the right one does.
