Car surges at idle what is the cause of this???

I just bought this 1991 GSX and it does this surging motion until it worms up then is fine. Is this normal??? Could I have something going wrong??? I dont know much about Turbo Models an would appreciate any help you guys can provide. Thank You!

By surging do you mean the engine revs and the RPM's go out of a certain range or the car actually surges forward even when barely tapping the gas?

If it only does it until it's warmed up then it's normal. There is a sensor in the throttle body that the coolant goes through. It adjust the throttle until the car is at normal operating temperature. Think of a wax ball, it's closed and hard until it heats up (adjusting/opening throttle), then melts allowing coolant to flow... (it's not actually a wax ball... just an example)

It surges at idle not when taking off...

I tought it would be normal since theres nothing going wrong, I just havent ever heard or experienced something like this with any of my cars. After all this is my first Turbo and was wondering if it happened to others around. Thanks for the feedback Guys.

It should be normal. The coolant is just going through the throttle body to warm it up so the idle stays a little bit higher then it lowers when it gets to operating temp.

Sounds like the ISC motor kicked the bucket, check out Vfaq.com there's an ISC testing procedure there.
