i have a 97 eagle talon esi with full build i got on a trade yesterday. it ran fine until a burnout done by previous owner. now when you start the car it rattles your brain loose... it shakes very badly at idle and through all the gears, i belive its the fly wheel because if you shut it off at the right time and try to restart the car the starter wont grab the flywheel until you manually roll the car over. it makes a weird clunk noise comming from trans when you first start it. but the shaking is bad enough to where its not drivable.. thanks for any help...

yeah im pulling the motor and trans. prob start tonight:rocks:

any other suggestions? could it be something other than an unbalanced/bad flywheel? motor mounts seem to be ok. one mount on the top of the trans is missing a nut wich i wll replace but i didnt think that just one nut would make the entire car shake

If there is a flywheel inspection cover, like on the AWD's, you could take a look there before you pull the transition off.

you could remove the starter and have a look at the flywheel that way but you wont see much more than the outer gear ring, if it has an inspection cover find it and look in there but if its shaking that bad your probably going to find the issue with ease during removal, just pull it.

definitely pull it out and also from the statement you made about the burn out it sounds like the car was beat to hell so look over everything it will take a while but in the long run it will be worth it

its a 5 speed. im going to start pulling the trans today. i removed the started and intercooler piping along with the strut bar. will have it out today. wil post results

thanks for the help.. it ended up being he bell housing bolts where finger tight and they ended up cracking the bellhousing. so looks like i need a new trans or get this one welded/repaired. know of any trans for sale around great lakes area?

Thats crazy, I don't see how somebody could forget to tighten the bellhousing bolts...as fa as your question, you can seach for one online, or just go out to a local junkyard and get one from an eclipse, shouldn't be too hard finding one
