OVERHEATING? The issues and their solutions have remained the same- either you don't have enough cool air reaching the rad, there's a cooling system obstruction which is preventing coolant from circulating, or your head gasket has failed and is allowing coolant to be consumed or pushed away from the engine.

Discuss all possible overheating problems and solutions here.

OK,
I just left my house to go over to my GF's,and happen to look down and see my needle right before the red mark. This just happened out of nowhere. I stop the car as quickly as i can, and pour in some coolant(Coolant a little low). Still same thing. Welp im in the middle of the road, and HAD to get it home. Im only 5 min from my house. I decided to try and make it(I really had no other choice). Welp I drive no faster than 20mph, and the temp needle is BARELY into the red the whole way.And occasionaly to the left of it. Am I ok?? Do ya think any damage was done?? And im thinking either thermostat, or water pump. For each of those, whats a round about $$ figure to get replaced?? Any info you have would be GREATLY appreciated!

the heater core is clogged....dont ever use use stop leak it will clog ypur core and radiator, and the heater core is not fun to replace

mine became clogged due to me adding stop leak to my coolant as a quick fix for a leaky radiator, stop leak is supposed to seal tiny holes anywhere in your coolant system. well i must have added too much. the gurgling sound behind the glove box is a dead giveaway. that is the water draining back out of the core. my car ran fine until i put a load on the engine, such as climbing a hill, due to the restriction in the core, the coolant could not flow fast enough to keep the engine at a cool temp. i tried backflushing the system, which did help some, but i had to replace the core for proper cooling and proper heat in the cockpit to return.

well i hope you dont have the same problem i had. I had same signs as you, when car sat it was ok but when driving it would go up , down up down all around at steady easy highway driving it was OK sometimes (cause of cold air rushing in). I checked everything and couldnt find it. I also flushed and all. Then the day came BAM ! pulled over and oil was everywhere !!!! my oil pump went on me  which turned into a new motor

now my :talon: has a little :dsm: in it :thumb:

i dont think it is that stop leak stuff in my case unless someone poured some in my radiator and didnt tell me. maybe this problem is just a glich in the 420a i dont know

i just rebuilt the lower motor...new copper headgasket...finally got it running it overheated...put new thermostat on it...hoses and rad all get hot...but coolant is racing to the overflow can. it basically burns the coolant...drove it for like 15 minutes, stayed at normal temp then like an on/off switch it just started to overheat..the steam was all near the overflow...now i can't get it started. was idling...started to sputter in 1 second intervals and then go back up then eventually i killed it..everytime i fill it i make sure there's no air in it....tried to start it and it wont...doesn't look like there is coolant in oil...any suggestions?

does a waterpump sound like the problem? my coolant is disappearing in more than gallon quantities...is the car burning that coolant? after i drive it and it overheats....to refill it takes usually at least a gallon. where is the coolant going...overflow is above full line...when i go to fill it...i have no idea

I have a 95 Gsx and my car is overheating. I put more antifreezie in and drove the car around fine no probs then i get outta my car there is antifreeze all over the ground and my car is steaming. Now when i dirve the temp rises so i went back home and pop the hood and could hear what i belive to be the antifreeze boiling wtf is wrong now.

It could just be your radiator cap. If you look at the underside of the cap and it looks dry rotten, replace it. If the cap is bad, it wont hold pressure causing the fluid to boil out the overflow.

First off just replaced the HG and I have the 6bolt swap. This is the problem, she's overheating strangly, like at first it would climb to pretty high then just drop to mid and do that over and over. Pop the hood and the water core hose if squeeze would make something leak near the thermohousing. Now the gauge is reading mid but I'm loosing coolent somewhere it seems. The upper rad pipe won't pressurize. Is this the rad cap or perhaps a gasket. I couldn't find the housing to block gasket so I used some gasket maker. Could it be this? Also I just did a flush and then put some no rust additive w/ the new fluid. Also now she's idles around 1200k when normal its like 800. This is driving me nuts because I just bought the car and got the hg done and now this is stumping me. Thanks
=Jason-

If the coolant is coming down on the drivers side of the car then that means that your waterpump needs to be replaced.
If its on the passenger side its something more minor like maybe radiator cap or Tstat. Could be a hose slightly cracked also.
