Car only idles part time..how do I adjust idle?

OK..I can start my 97 gs and some times it will idle fine, other times it will idle low like 500rpm...and other times it will not idle at all...what could cause this spuratic behavior? only aftermarket part is a A&M long cold air pipe and a&M filter..is there a way to speed my idle up manually?
