Okay guys so basically when i change my belt like 3 months ago and this happens. every time i start my engine and to let it warm up i hear a squeak sound so i investigate and pop the hood. For some reason the sounds was coming from my right side where my belt and timing belt are. I am pretty sure its not the timing belt because i changed it like 8-12 months ago but the belt i just changed it recently but i didnt do it i bought it to a auto shop and they did it for me because the belt snap. Okay so when ever i start the car i hear the squeak i try n turn my engine off and restart the engine it does not squeak okay so i turn on my defroster and a/c the squeak is even worst. Any clue what is making this annoying dreadful sound. ( poor car... she is crying in pain )

I would say that the belt is either bad, not the correct size or it's too tight or too loose. You narrowed it down to which belt is squeeling.

Also just because the noise gets worse when you put the A/C on it does not mean it’s the A/C belt, Putting the A/C on puts an electrical load on the alternator causing it to work harder, in that the pulley on the alternator titans up and causes the belt to slip and squeal.

What???????WTF

Ok if an alternator is under light load like you start your car up and have every thing switched off the pulley on the front of the alternator will spin quite freely. How ever if you start turning things on in the car like the heated rear window and lights oh and the A/C the pulley on the alternator will have to tighten up to produce more electric hence turning on the A/C can cause the alternator belt to squeak or squeal :thumb:

^^ I have never, ever heard of it causing the alternator belt to squeal.

If you have a worn alt belt any electrical load will cause it to slip. I have one at the moment and the first start up of the day it squeals like crazy, so i turn every thing off and it stops. Cold mornings dont help either:thumb:

okay guys thanks for all the heads up and replies, one more thing is there any post here that shows you how to tighten the belt because i know from my friend's car his belt is on the front of the engine which is easy to have excess to but for dsm motor its on the right where its hard for me to remove the belt. So is there any post that shows me how to do it, if so can you give me the link.

Thanks

ok well you dont need to remove it unless your changing it, SO when looking at the alternator, on top right by the belt theres a bolt that goes threw a bracket into the alternator, losen that up, then on the front of the alt closer the back of the headlight there is another bolt, turn it clockwise to tighten up the tension, and then once its tight, tighten the 1st bolt you made lose, lemme know if i confused you

just tighten it up. you dont wanna snap it off trust me. ive done that before like 10 miles from home. needles to say my car overheated because i never realized i snapped it off until it was too late. luckily it didnt cause any damage.

yea my alternator belt does the same squeal really loud, and i've noticed while im driving if it hasnt stopped yet then if i turn off electrical appliances such as my headlights or a/c then it will stop. but i have no idea how to get rid of this, my alternator is swapped in and the threads are ghetto so tightening it is out of the question, im pretty sure its tight enough anyways. i've been using a spare belt since the last one snapped LOL should i just get a brand new one?
