Well I was pulling out of my driveway and suddenly my car just stopped and stalled right after. When my car died it felt like I hit the brakes but I didnt. As of right now my car is in front of my neighbors driveway. The wierd thing is that even in neutral and with the handbrake down 5 guys cant even move the car by pushing it. The car wont move. he car starts and idles fine but just doesnt want to move. With the car on the car wont move even when it is in first or reverse. It feels like the ebrake is up but its not. The car doesnt wont even move an inch!!
I have no clue on what it is. I dont know if this would help but my transmission is pretty bad. It pops out in first, sometimes won't go in 2nd, and grinds in 3rd gear. theres an almost brand new clutch and flywheel on the car. The turbo spools and the rpms rise. It feels like it wants to move but it doesnt (kinda feels like brake torqing on an automatic). The brakes feel fine and the e brake is down..
any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

and the car is a 92 galant vr-4.. :dsm:

I will try to check the brakes to make sure it is not locking the wheels. check the brake pads.

The tranny May be dead, but can you press the clutch as usual or feel loose? whenever you said it shift into 1 and 2 gear was when the car is running?

IF all fails, and you are AWD the rear end may be locked on you or the T-case. (recall)

Sorry I am just giving you hints about what could be the problem.
:coy:

I will check if the brake pads are hitting the rotors. IMO the tranny shifts fine. I tried moving the car in first, second, and third gear but just wont budge. and as for the t case im pretty sure the recall was done. what are symptoms of a bad t case? thanks for the quick reply!

symptom might be:
-leaking tranny fluid all over
-weird noise wich I doubt is your problem.

If you can take the T-case out and try to turn it by hand. (the T-case only). If it turns and no tranny fluid is all over, It should be ok.

But I believe is your tranny. (sorry)

so you think the problem is my tranny? Im at work right now so I cant really check til later on tonight..

I would almost guarantee you that the tranny has locked itself up. If it's popping out of gear your bearings are shot and that's probably why it grinds.

This gets my vote as well.

I had a similar problem on tranny #2
the shifter will move, but it was stuck in 3rd, so even though the shifter was moving it wasn't actually changing the gear. it was a broken fork.

do feel the gears goin in, or its sloppy?

You can troubleshoot by lifting the car up, all 4 tires, and spinning the wheels.

if both front and back both move freely then it could your t-case
if the front is locked and the back spins then could be your tranny
if the back is locked and front spins then it could be your rear diff

When you spin one tire, the other other side will spin the opposite direction because of the differential. Also, If the front spins, get someone to hold the other tire, or drop the car down on one side. Then with the car in neutral, it you can't spin it any more then your tranny is done.

I think I covered it all. This is the time where it would be nice to have a lift in your garage!! Good Luck! :thumb:

Ive heard of this before. The 1g's had problems with weak spyder gears in the t-case and the front diffs. Often times they would fracture causing the lock up. Your not the type to drive the piss out of your turbo'd awd are you? Cause that kind of a break is usually caused by rappin it out and dumpin it. Grabbin gears, grinding gears, overfull tranny. underful tranny/t-case. Im not one to talk ive gone through 3 trannys in my fwd turbo in two years. But damn! it was fun! Do the off the ground test recemended earlier in this forum. But prepare yourself for a tranny/transfercase replacement.

wow all i gotta say is thanks.. u gave me some good ass info there!!
well we jacked up the front and both of the tires turn.. so I was thinking it would be the rear diff or possibly the transfer case.. thank god that it wasnt my tranny (whew).. well the main goal for me was to move the car back because my car was completely blocking my freinds neighbors driveway and they were bitchin.. well we thought if we jack up the car in the front and the back completely centered (meaning two jacks supporting my car w/o any tires touching the ground), we would be able to push it back which was kind of risky.. Rear tires moved also so which means its probably the transfer case thats fu*kd.. That idea didnt work too well becase it was still too heavy and also very risky. So we tried putting two jacks in the rear with both front tires on the ground.. We tried pushing the car this way but it was still way to heavy because the tires on the jacks didnt want to move we even tried spraying wd40 but that didnt help out.. I got in my car and started it and tried reversing with the jacks supporting the rear end. At first it didnt move at all but adding some gas made the car move while friends were inspecting any lil movements from the jacks. The noise was pretty nerveracking while my car was moving very slowly. At a certain point there was a crack on the curb that didnt allow the jack to move any further. But by that time the car moved enough so a car could fit in a driveway. The amazing thing was that my car moved about 5 yards with jacks supporting the rear which was pretty crazy to me. The neighbors approved that the car was ok now.. well thanks for the help everyone!!

I can to the conclusion that it's my transfer case thats causing my wheels to lock..
Both front and back wheels move when there jacked up but when on ground my car doesnt go anywhere.. pls correct me if im wrong! :thumb:

Well I really dont beat on my car just because I just got the car registered like two days ago. The tranny thats in my galant now sucks ass.. 1st gear pop out sometimes, 2nd gear is hard to get to, and 3rd gear grinds which f*ckin sucks cuz I live in chicago.. Im going to fill up my tranny with penzoil synchromesh since its what people here recommend and mobil 1 for the transfer and rear. I never even got to launch my car yet =(.. My question is should I buy a new transfer case or should I get my car towed and take it to a mistu dealer for the transfer case? The transfer case recall has been done already but reading through the forums here mistu dealers are obligated to fix it if it goes bad again..

Well put defiant. I was going to make the same comment after I posted but alas, I was distracted.
Yes, from what I hear they are obligated to repair the problem even if its already been done. But Ive also heard that they might try to weasle out of it aswell. Its just a transfer case... It cant be that hard to drop'n'stuff. The tranny by itself is like three to four hours if youve never done it before.

i was cruzin at about 45 and heard a knock knock then all 4 wheels locked up. come to find out my rear differential froze and took out my transfer case and tranny too. when it happened i just got mad put it in first rapped her up to 7000 and dumped my clutch and broke it loose :) (maybe that has somethin to do with it). to sum it up rear diff or transfer case case they lock up too. ive had 1g awd for 6 yrs now i know them pretty good and have plenty of spare parts :) Good-Day
