Car farts 30 seconds after shutoff

Not quite sure what this is... For the last year or so I've been trying to figure out what is causing this but it happens so randomly I can't seem to track down where it's coming from or what triggers it. I'll start off by saying my car does NOT have air conditioning so I know that has nothing to do with it.

After driving the car I'll shut it off and start walking toward my house, then as I'm opening the door to get in my house I hear this sound like a kazoo or a party horn playing under my hood for 10 to 20 seconds. I'm sure its some sort of pressure relief valve but I can't figure out for the life of me why one would be releasing after the car is shut off or what would even need to be released after shutoff.

Anyone else have this problem and found a solution?

I would love to see a video of it =D. But have you thought about the bov maybe releasing pressure for some reason?

Wouldn't be any pressure in the system for the blow off valve. Sounds more like the cooling system to me, maybe bad radiator cap or overflow coolant lid letting off pressure.

could be what your hearing is coolant bubling in the over flow as well.

I'm pretty sure it's not coolant either. What I'm starting to think is it's fuel related from under the hood it sounds like it's coming from the firewall but my dad heard it loud near the back of the car by the gas cap. I'm wondering if fuel pressure is releasing and it's echoing throughout the fuel system? Even so I still can't think of a fuel component that would make that noise after shutoff.

Does it sometimes idle a little higher when it happens? It could possibly be unburnt gas in the exhaust and when it finally gets to the cat it would be hot enough to ignite it. I would drive for a while to get the temperature up ex(comming home from work) and right before u shut it off give it a little bit more gas and then shut it off. if it happens u might have a better lead on what it might be.

Nope runs completely normal. I can't capture the sound for you all because its too random sometimes I won't notice it for more than a week. If you want to know how it sounds by a party horn that's the exact noise.

Yeah, Defiant does that 30 seconds after daily shutoff too. I blame it on old parts.


Have you tried popping the hood while it's making this noise to try to narrow down an area or specific part?
