Toronto,
As the title states, my car, a 1993 TSi AWD is stuck in 2nd gear. I was driving around at about 20-30km/h in second gear when it just bogged down. I pushed the clutch in, and tried to shift it into 1st, but that wouldnt happen. Tried to shift the gear into 3rd, but even with the clutch pedal all the way down to the floor, the gear wouldnt disengage and go into 3rd.

The car was basically STUCK. It wouldnt move forward either in its current 2nd gear position. The engine just died when i slipped the clutch out too much. Had to flat bed it home and dump it on the lawn. Theres no way in hell to get it moving in 2nd.

I have the stock clutch. I searched, and some of the possible causes seem to be dealing with the 1-2 fork shift, the clutch fork and or the pivot ball. But in all these cases, the car should be driveable in the selected gear. Im stumped, any and all help would be appreciated.

ps-not sure if this needs to be in the drivetrain section. im posting it here since im a newbie

See if you have any fluid in your reservoir for the master cylinder... sounds like either the Master or Slave cylinder went on you, or maybe your clutch line rusted out somewhere.

My slave went when the tranny was in first gear, and my clutch was basically useless. I ended up stalling everytime I stopped and then revving it as I started the car and just rolling like that. Pretty hard to start a car and use the gas at the same time. I had a hard time doing it in first gear, I'd imagine 2nd would be nearly impossible.

Its something to look at before you pull your tranny to inspect the clutch fork, ect.

Good luck.

I checked the master and slave cylinder fluid reservoirs. Both have an appropriate amount of fluid. So it maybe the actual master/slave cylinder.......or the clutch fork/1-2 shift fork etc.

The clutch has pressure by the way, dosnt feel soft or limp. Thanks for the input.

My car got stuck in 5th after a trip down to ISU. I forgot that it was in gear and stopped and died it out. I had to yank it out of gear. Try pumping the clutch. Or maybe even check the shifter it might have broke off from the ball and is stuck in that position.
