Car dies and Over drive isn't working??

Okay so I have a 1999 eclipse gsx. It's all stock. Only had 74k miles...but I'm having some problems with it. It is an automatic. It starts up and idles a little over 1 grand. When I shift it from park to reverse it dies. Sometimes if I leave one foot on the brake and give it a little gas with the other foot it won't die when i shift...but im sure thats not good on the car. I'm trying to decide if this is due to a fuel pump or what? When I shift from reverse to drive it dies. Once I get it where I can just go straight it drives normally with out dying. Also when I'm driving down the road it seems like third gear isn't working properly? My over drive isn't working. It lights up but you can tell its not working by watching the rpms. With that being said...I haven't got to drive my gsx past 60 mph Once I'm at 60 mph it stars running at about 4 thousand rpms...and I don't want to constantly drive it with over drive not working because i don't want to make my transmission worse. Could it be a solenoid causing this because I don't see how my automatic transmission can just drop third gear? I'm not sure what's causing these two issues because I'm new at this but I would really like to get my gsx running right! Help please! -GSXChick

The issue with the OD is the end-clutch needs to be rebuilt..It is the single easiest transmission problem to repair ..The passenger wheel is removed and the end clutch is right there, so it can be removed quickly from the trans and easily repaired by you if your handy or a shop...

Okay thank you for your help! Do u think that has anything to do with my car not wanting to shift past third gear? Is this going to fix my whole problem? Is this a cheap fix or no?
