Alright so I was driving down the road, givin' her some boost when I hit 4th gear it just completely shut down, all the dash lights came on as if I just turned the key to on. I rolled to a stop and tried to start it and it turned over great and sounded like good compression. I have no idea what could have just failed in that instance and as hoping maybe someone else with a 1g has had a similar episode. All help with be greatly appreciated!

Not good but it sounds like you could have broke the timing belt or it jumped. If the car turns over the same as normal then maybe you didnt.Take the top cover off and have a looksy. If it's fine you could have blown a intercooler pipe/copler.So do a boost leak test.
Good luck.

Okay, so did the car start immediately after you pulled over? If so, I would say that the battery (pos or neg) terminal became disconnected or wasn't providing a secure enough contact or the post contacted the hood in that instant.

If the car will still not start, I would wager your timing belt slipped.

It makes sense. But a car just shutting off like that without any other symptom? Then starting up again just fine? I don't see that being a VAC leak of any kind or even something mechanical. Has to be electrical in some way. Sensor? Bad alt.? Short?

No it didnt start back up. Sorry for the late reply but I was just out tinkering and have come across the problem!
-First my guess was fuel pump. I got under it and put the test light on it and cranked it over and the light lit right up(as I'm doing this outside in the dark with just a trouble light.)
- So now I know its getting fuel and can smell gas when cranking it so I look to the next thing, the coil pack.
Got lookin at it and lookin at it until I came across a lonely corroded bare end wire. I looked and looked some more to find that, that wire had a bad spot and corroded in half conncecting to the back of the coil.
I feel good that its the cause of my no start issue but is going to be a bear to repair unless the coil pack comes out without removing the intake? If so then its a quick fix and back to boostin!
