The Car:
1990 Talon TSi AWD.

Mods:
Walbro 255lph, Apexi SAFC, Apexi N1 catback, TurboXS type H-RFL BOV, unknown MBC (18-20psi), and an Autometer boost guage.

The Problem:
My car has been running just fine for a while now, so this came out of nowhere. tonight a friend and i were driving around, and i got in it from a stop sign. it went fine to 3rd gear and then i let off. all seemed well untill a few seconds later the exhaust started making popping sounds. now when i try to accelerate it wont get past about 10psi and then the BOV makes a popping sound like a paintball gun or one of those old nerf ball launchers. (sorry thats the best description i can give).

So heres what im thinking:
I might have fouled the plug (im running a walbro 255 with no FPR untill tomorrow when i can buy fittings and stainless line tomorrow). My thought is that this would cause it misfire, temporarily stopping (or reducing) exhaust gas flow to the turbo, causing the BOV to think that I let off the gas and vent. The BOV venting and then shutting could cause the low boost/low acceleration that im seeing. The guage reads ten psi, but when it starts popping is jerks back and forth from 8-10.

Any other suggestions?

it has a Hallman MBC, i'm not sure what type. It is the stock 14b and stock piping. It had the side port to the wastegate and the bottom port to the vacumn line abour 4 inches before the BOV.

Then it's easy, remove the line from the T fitting on the BOV line and connect it back to the fitting on the turbo outlet pipe, replace the BOV line with a fresh hose going directly from the BOV to the intake manifold. Finally mount the mbc at a location where minimal hose length (both hoses) is required. What is your plan for recirculation of the BOV?

ok so this is how I have it hooked up now.

As best as I can figure this is correct.

That is correct but I would turn it around and mount it on one of the radiator fan support so it's not sitting right on top of the turbo and exhaust manifold (heat). I'm also going to keep asking you about BOV circulation until you recirculate. :)

haha i know you are. I would, but I dont know how. The whole elbow is ground out to fit the TurboXs, so putting the stock one on is not an option. The air horn on it is like 3 inch o.d. and the biggest hose i can find is about 2.5 inch o.d. I dont have enough money to get one that can recirculate right now, so I sont know what to do.

Does this mean if I show you a cheap way to do it, you will?

i had this same problem sort of. double check and make sure that all of your vaccum lines and hoses to the intercooler are on tight. that was my problem. the intercooler hose kept blowing off at higher psi.

oldman, yes, i'd do it. Its not like im trying to intentionally make my car run like crap. I just cant think of a way without using 3 different sizes of hose clamped together.
So how?

alright its done. Althought not near as easily, cheaply, or cleanly as that write up due to the placement of the BOV.

ta da!
the BOV is now silent though, the stock one was louder. I dont get it.

Nice.... I know you have been conducting that leak test in another thread, make sure you leak test the return hose. Now on to the AFPR!!!:rocks:
