We are in the process of putting a BM Tranny LSD insert into a 2G FWD. We have followed the VFAQ all the way. The tranny housing will NOT lift off. Here is a pic of everything that has been taken out. The reverse sensor has since been taken out as well with still no avail.

there is also a plug on the side that has a ball on the end it needs to be removed. also did you remove the 3 bolts with the spring and balls?

EDIT: ok you did remove the ball and spring bolts but there are 2 other bolts on there in the pic that are still not removed try removing those and then lift it off it should come off easily

Ok, we think we found the culprit...its a Torx head bolt on the other side of the tranny. There was no mention of it anywhere and wasn't in the list of special tools on the manual CD. I am thinking this was a '98+ thing. We didn't have a Torx bit so we are getting one tomorrow. Here is a pic of the bolt:

If anyone can verify that the a pre '99 model has something other than a Torx head, let me know.

Awesome man thanks! I never saw that vfaq anywhere!

Gotta remove the reverse idler shaft bolt, if you haven't figured it out already.

edit: upon looking at that faq, it seems like the 2Gs have a star head for said bolt? My 1g has a normal bolt, so consider this your verification that my pre-99 eclipse doesn't have a star bolt. :D

Yeah....we actually got it all installed and working. Turns out that is a Torx-50. Just an FYI for anyone who might search for this later on.
