I got my engine and tranny on the hoist and i was gonna remove the tranny so i can put the block on my engine stand, but this tranny will NOT come off for anything

every last bolt is out, and i pryed on it to no end, it ended up coming out about a quarter inch and wont go any further, spent 3 hours on it tried everything i could think of

I spent an hour or so on mine. Then I un-bolted the transfer case and it came right off!

I guess next time you will research it before you go tearing into it. You could have saved a lot of time and trouble.

Be sure that you didn't damage your fly or anything else when you were prying on it.

It seems we both learned the hard way. I did the exact same thing when I did my motor swap and was trying to get the tranny off to put my ACT 2600 and XACT fly in it.

i looked through vfaq didnt find much as far as it not coming off, shows a diagram of bolts that hold it on, they are all off, and when i was prying i did not pry on the flywheel at all

ill unbolt the tcase, although i dont see how that will help, i i cant really picture how everything is hooked up inside the tranny tho so ill give it a shot

there is a shaft that connects the tranny to the transfer case via a axle. The transfer case usually slides off the axle and then the tranny is removed. You can't take the transfer case off with the axle coming out of the tranny, the transfer case will hit the oil pan sump. I had two different motors. One of them had the axle stuck inside the transfer case, the other had the axle stuck inside the tranny and the transfer case came off. Luckily I was switching a cracked oil pan at the time. I had to bend the F out of the oil pan to get it around the transfer case that was out about 2 inches. I also had to bend the hell out of my pick up. I got the pan off, then removed the transfer case and had to beat the hell out of it to get the axle out. I finally got it out and cleaned it and lubed it up so it would come off easier next time...hopefully. Then I put the pick up off my old motor on and the new oil pan, then put it back together. For some reason, I couldn't get the axle to come out of the tranny on my one engine, but on my jdm it cam out easily.

The transfer case kind of wraps around the flywheel too. You can do it however, but it's hard to do, you kind of have to go in at an angle and I left the transfer case loose and pulled out about 2 inches to give the flywheel some clearance, then bolted the bellhousing up, then the transfer case to the tranny.

Hope that wasn't too confusing. If you need any further help, PM me, I just did two of these swaps last week and it's fresh in my head still.

i got it off, i didnt realize the tcase came up behind the flywheel, it was hitting the flywheel it looks like, but no biggie it came off in like 5 mins once i took off the tcase

i think im gonna have my coustin rebuild the tranny and tcase, i gotta talk to him next week, he works at g-force transmissions building race trannys, he said he can get anything i need for super cheap

And for the love of god, make sure you're tucked well out of the way before zipping back up.

Defiant, that pic in your sig has got to be the sharpest, most interesting pic I've seen on this site. The color contrast is just incredible. The white car with the different colors in the background........ it just plain sweet. (Forgive me, my other hobby is photography) Let me know if you've still got on disk, I'd like to get a copy of it, via email. :thumb:
