Cant Remove Axels

I am having a problem removing my front axels on a fwd 91 gst. I took off the hub nut and washer and tried to push the axel thru but it wont go thru the rotor completely. Am I missing a step? All I need is another 2 in. before I can take it completely out! Any thing will help!

Unbolt the lower ball joint and swing the spindle assembly out of the way. The axle will then push all the way through the hub for easy removal

Did you unbolt the struts? usually taking the 2 bolts out of the strut mount gives enough forward movement to get them out.
