ECUflash Can't read ECU ROM with EcuFlash-98 black box ECU

I searched the forums but couldn't find an answer. I'm having a problem reading my ECU ROM with EcuFlash 1.44.4503. I am using a Windows 7 laptop. Car is a 1997 Eclipse AWD turbo with a black box ECU (MD346675- from a 98 Eclipse base on p/n) that has been flashed. I wanted to download the flashed ROM to know what's in there. I have a 13.1 cable (I think it's from evoscan) that came with the car. It has the "extra" wire that I plugged to pin 79 on the ECU. When I try to read the ECU ROM it appears to connect but then gives an error message and disconnects. This is what the LOG says:

Any ideas what the problem could be? Does it matter which vehicle you select before the download (I tried all the H8539F and H8539FA chip types which I believe is right for my ECU). I also had a battery charger installed to keep voltage up.

Not sure if you found your answer but you cannot download the rom on a 98/99 black box with the 1.3 cable, only the 2.0 will do it. The 1.3 is only for data logging the back box ECUs and flashing the EVO8/9 ECUs.

Thanks. Good to know. I found an OEM 1997 ECU which I can use with my "piggy-back" ECU+ (that I saved from my last 2g)
