Cant hook up gauge lights and dash lights at the same time!

Well,i had both dash and guage lights working till tonight.Started the car to go to the store, and noticed my needles were not lighting up.I just installed a new cd player a few days ago, but all the lights were working the last few days.So i checked the fuses,all good.I noticed when i unhooked the dash from power by the wire on the stereo harness ,i had needle and hvac lights, but when i hooked them both up,they both go out.Why is this happening?Oh, the harness was cut when i bought the car.

Sounds like you hooked the gauge lights up incorrectly. One side should go to taillight relay power (green/white wire) and the other side to reostat (dimmer) black/yellow. This is the same way dash lights are connected. Does the dimmer still work? Does turning on CD affect lights?

So your saying the wires comming from the dash should jus route themseves back into the wire harness?And no, dimmer doesnt work and my tail/parking lights stay on no matter what i do with the headlight switch.They go out with ignition though.
