Hello my 98 Eclipse GS is in the shop getting a new water pump timing belt and tie rod ends, the mechanic said hes having trouble getting the timing belt off i figured maybe you guys know why hes having an issue or advice on how to get it off that i could forward to him to help him out.

My first suggestion is to go to a different mechanic if they can't figure out how to remove it the way the factory intended.

Second suggestion is if you don't want the belt have him cut it off. Nothing bad will happen and it is quicker this way.

From my experience with 420a's, 1 or the 3 bolts on the motor mount bracket is really hard to take out. You'll need to tilt the whole motor. While the car is on the ground, put a jack under the oil pan, make sure you have something flat suface to face the oil pan and jack it up high enough to get the bolt out. I changed the timing belt on my dad's 95 eclipse gs. PITA

I'm sure the mechanic knows this. he works for (toyota) so i don't see why he can't handle a timing belt on the 420a.
I would just go to somebody else like stated before.

If the mechanic know's this, then why is he having trouble taking out the timing belt? It wasnt stated by the OP what the mechanic needs help with.

If you work for TOYOTA and you don't know how to do a timing job on a car then i don't know what to say..
I'm sure if you work for any major car company you will need to be ASE certified...
So yeah.

Well i took it to a new mechanic hes been working on it im pleased with the new guy he knows what hes doing but he gave me bad news, that one of my motor mounts is completly broke he said he beleive my car had been in a bad accident before. yikes
