Ok, I've tried 7 or 8 times now to get my timing on correctly, and I just cant seem to get it perfect. Either that or I'm crazy. In the pics you'll notice the timing marks wont line up perfectly for some reason, but that is the only way I can get the belt to fit on. Also when doing testing to see if my oil pump was in phase with the balance shaft, the vfaq way, it didn't move at all in either direction. Also, should I be seeing any oil pumped while turning the engine over by hand?

Note: The tensioner is not putting tension on the belt in these pictures

from the looks i would say it can be one tooth off maybe below or above, if you have the balance shafts still in, the oil pump will pretty much set it self, try lining up the bottom and then keep the belt loose and try skipping the cams tooth by tooth till its perfect, you can always set the cams and zip tie the belt to the cams and then set the bottom, skipping tooth by tooth.

they should be dead on, every time i have done timing its directly on

did you put a long screw driver in cylinder 1 and make sure its at tdc

I've been using clamps to keep the cams lined up, but for some reason the damn belt wont fit and have the oil sprocket and crank lined up perfectly. And yes it's at TDC

I just got done replacing the timing and bs belt on my car like two weeks ago. It was my first time and it took like 2 weeks of wrenching after work cause they just wouldnt line up.i lined the cams up first and clamped the belt on then did oil pump then crank. Just keep trying it'll eventually line up. What i did was take my balance shaft belt off and started over again and for some reason it worked . Good luck man

no do the balance shaft belt , then clamp the timing belt to the cam gears but make sure the exhaust gear is pulled back 1 tooth towards the front of the car, then put the belt on the oil and the crank, then tensioner. when you let the pin go on the tensioner the exhaust cam will move into place,

+1 ive always used zip ties to hold everything whatever works

put the timing belt on the cam gears first then zip tie the belt down on 2 spots on both gears then work on getting the belt on the oil pump sporcket then the crankshaft sprocket good luck man
