Ok so I did the timing on my motor and everything lined up perfectly even after rotating the crank by hand. Now after the first start up it seems to be slightly off. I have adjustable gears but they are still zeroed in have.Could the hash marks on the timing cover be alittle off? Because when I Aline the cams the crank apears to be a few degrees atdc.

Plenty of videos on youtube about this.

Also. You can do the count the teeth method.

Here is a thread explaining a bit more on why all 4 gear marks do not necessarily line up in a perfectly straight line. Given some calculations (and just by experience) It is not a 180* affair, but more along the lines of 176* or so. The most important thing to understand is that the two center marks need to be parallel to the head surface (and of course each other) and that the 39 teeth are counted. Also, dowel pin position will NOT be at 12 o'clock, it's rather irrelevant, so don't worry about th

I already installed it and per the instructions in your link. However, after runing the engine the crank seems to be advanced a few degrees from the cams. I was wondering if it could be an issue of aftermarket marks on the gears and dampener or the timing marks on the cover being off. I guess one way to check would be to pull the cover and inspect the crank sprocket timing mark. I do not want to have to go through all that trouble if this seems to be a non-issue.

The thing that seems strange is I rotated the crank by hand at least a dozen times and it always lined up.

if you lined everything up and it was good then you ran it and was and no longer the same then maybe you should look to your tensioner pulley, sounds posible that if there was slack of tension on the belt it could have slipped a tooth or two at the crank sproket where i think you stated it had changed. keep us updated ###:thumb:

any progress?
