I have everything out of the way. I am taking my engine out of my 2G GSX. Can I just take the engine out and leave the transmission in. I have searched and noone mentions doing this on an AWD only asking and not telling. Like I said everything is out of the way and disconnected. I even have all the mounting bolts taken out and the trans is supported by jacks. I cant get the engine to disconnect from the trans. I see space between the two, but it wont completely come out. I dont want to wedge something in there and break something. Please help, if there is a webpage or if someone has pics or instructions, it would be greatly appreciated. Please and thanks. If someone is in the Lake Forest, CA area and wouldnt mind helping me just pull it out even, I could pay you, it should only take about 20 minutes to a half our. Everything else is already done, let me know. Thanks!

some people forget about the smaller bolt around the starter that goes in from the engine side (you would see a gap around all but starter area). i know i did the first time the tranny came out. there is not a lot of room to take just the engine out without removing the tranny first, or at least at the same time, but good luck with that.

You will need to disconnect the tranny mount first than move the tranny more to the right side (If your looking to your engine bay). I have done my 1g in a 2g swap and noticed I had to do this. The tranny is connected to the engine by the input shaft and that needs to be cleared. If I were you I would just remove the tranny and engine together its much easier. All you need to do is take your transfercase out which wasn't difficult at all. Another thing I recommend is taking your hood off as well.

Using your method you would still have to disconnect the tranny mount and the engine mounts so you can move the engine around. Swing the whole piece far right as possible then slowly remove the tranny from the engine.

Anyway I hope that helps.

I have done it both ways, and I swear I will ALWAYS take out the two together from now on. It is trying to put it back in with the tranny still in that pissed Me off  . Good luck :thumb:

Maybe I will just take the two out together. The hood is off of course. I removed the starter totally and have checked all the way around and no bolts are left. I will take them out together I guess. I just figured it would be less work if I took just the engine out. Thanks for the replies and all.
