Wiggle, tug and everything under the moon.

I seriously hate lining up the trans. And all the times I've done it is with the engine out of the car with a FWD trans. It's a PITA, I know... but then, out of nowhere, you hit the money spot and it slides in like a... well you know

You used a clutch alignment pin when putting the clutch on right?

Take the axle out.
I've done a ton of dsm tranny installs on fwd and awd. I use a floor jack under the trans, get it close as possible, then use my hands, pick it up a little and put it in there. Sometimes it requires a little wiggle of the case as well as a final kung fu kick.

ok, to start you have to make sure your clutch is aligned properly. The clutch alignment tool should slide in easily. I actually end up pushing up on it a butt hair while tightening the clutch cover. Also keep in mind if your engine may have moved to far aft. but once you plug that guy in, it should be pretty effortless to get it the rest of the way in till it hits the dowel pins. check your gaps (bell housing to engine block gaps, read them and that tells you which way you need to go with the trans, if the gap is large at the bottom, the trans needs to go down etc. )

also take the axle out at least pull it back a bit

Good thing to point out.
But if they don't know how to do that properly or overlooked it LOL, they probably have no business doing the install

grease the spindle a little, Jus when i was done, before i cranked it up. i looked under to see if there was anything i left out. i noticed the back dowel close to the starter wasnt mated with the trany. I was like shit!@. i had to take everything back off n redo it >.< I added a little grease to the spindle then it jus went in.

ya i used a clutch alignment tool to put the clutch assembly together,, ill get that axel out of there,, thats a good idea,, one less thing to bind everything and all

and LMFAO on the kung fu kick,, thats funny man

is it a smart idea to grease the spindle tip a little bit? i dont want that tip spinning grease on my clutch disk ,, any possibility of that?

and its in thanks guys for the help -- the axel being out was the one that did the trick
