cant get crankshaft out of block

I just picked up a 6 bolt and i started taking it apart, all the pistons, rods, main caps ect. are already removed. but i cant pull the crank out, because of the shaft that sticks out of the front (where the timing belt sprocket, and pulley bolt to). Does that shaft have to be removed? and if so how? I looked in the chilton, and did a search but couldn't find it. Thanks in advance.

You say you have the main caps off, the front cover, and the rear main off. The crank should come right out.

Yeah everything is off. If i try to pull the crank straight up the front shaft hits the block.

you SURE you have taken the front cover off. Are the balance shafts still in the motor?

Take off the front cover. The piece that surrounds the part of the crank that is sticking out.

Oh yeah, there is a rear cover also. You might want to take a look at your Chilton's/Haynes.

Yeah it's the front cover, i feel really dumb now. I've rebuilt a couple of small block chevy's and once you got the mains off it's ready to go. Thanks guys.
