I did the timing belt and BS delete. The car was runnihg fine for 300 miles. Today I was driving up this hill and the car dies at a light. I tried to restart it but it would not start. I towed the car home and thought it might be the timing belt. I pulled the top timing cover and the belt looked good, i then pulled the balancer to look at the crank pully and the belt looked good there. I rotated the engine by hand and the timing belt has all the teeth and is not loose on the cam or crank pulleys. I tried to align all the timing marks but I cant. I have a screw driver in the spark plug hole and can not get the number 1 cylinder at TDC with the cam gears and crank gears aligned. I have no idea what the hell is going on. I pulled the valve cover and all the rockers move with the cams and all the rockers are tight against the valve springs. Any thought what is going on. 91 talon tsi 6 bolt.

Before i pulled the timing belt i made sure the pistons were in the middle of the cylinders. I pulled the timing belt an moved the cam gear dowels to 12 aclock. I inspected the head again for loose rocker arms or broke springs and it all looks good. Im gonna continue tomorrow and hopefully the compression test will show good compression on all cylinders. Has anyone here ever not bent valves.

Did you do the Timing belt yourself originally? Did you use zipties and wrenches to hold the gears in the right place? If you know you did it right the first time, keep turning the crank until the gears go around at least 6 times, everything will only line up once every 6 rotations of the gears.

Yes I did the timing belt myself. I also tried to align the timing marks, I must have rotated the crank 50 times trying to align the timing marks. Will see what happens tonight when I install a new timimg belt.
