Jack the car up and check your cv boots. You will most likely find that they are torn. You can just replace the cv boots and instead of replacing the axles.

the driver side boot is torn, but i dont see any axle grease from there????

If they've been torn a while now, just replace the whole axle because your going to need to eventually because theres already been rain and road gunk etc inside your cv joint.

Pretty easy to replace the axle if you do it right. Pop the hub bolt. Take off lower control arm (both hub-side and frame-side), get out your pickle fork and pop the tie rod end off. Get in there, take your pickle fork or screwdriver, give it some good blunt hits to the pickle fork to pop the axle out. Done!
