Can Injectors get noisy?

I have a wierd higher pitched ticking noise coming from my engine whenever I apply throttle. It's not the ticking that you hear from sticky lifters, but rather a higher pitched ticking.....It almost sounds like a cricket or cicada is hiding under my hood.
It doesn't occur at idle, but when I apply throttle (say to start from a stop) the sound appears. It's doesn't speed up as rpm's increase, but stays consistant.
If I am in neutral, and I hit the throttle, the sound returns, but immediatly goes away if the rpms are kept steady (say 3K) it's only when I stab the throttle, or when I am accellerating.....

It's really hard to pinpoint..
My questions are:
1) can injectors get noisy over time, if they haven't been "flushed" or serviced, resulting in noisy operation?
2) if it is an exhaust/manifold gasket leak, would such a sound occur?

exhaust leak very possible.also could be tranny noise.

^ ^ ^ Agreed on exhaust. Look for a cracked manifold, or a leaking gasket around the missing (broken) stud.

Upon closer inspection, I noticed one of the bolts holding the compressor housing of the Turbo to the exhaust side has come loose, resulting in what might be an exhaust leak.
I'll have to wait until the engine cools down before I can get a wrench in there.
Here's hoping that's all there is

I can't imagine that the manifold gasket is faulty, because when I put in the T28 about 1.5yrs ago, all the gaskets from the manifold to the down pipe were replaced, so they are still rather new, however, never say never I guess....

Yeh, once you get a leak, exhaust will cut through a gasket -even steel-reinforced- in about five minutes. Once that happens, tightening won't fix it.
