Currently intalling a 50 trim and its already on, but the obstacle now is putting back the fan/radiator. I have shaved off a lot of the shrouding and it is still going to hit the licp. I have a 2g, if there is anybody who managed to run stock fans can you post a pic of how you did it? what and how much you cut.. This is with ic piping routed to stock smic location.

I made it work for like a week but it ended up messings my WG up and I couldn't hold boost the fan was bending the WG bracket. So I would say you are better off with at least changing the passenger side fan and probably rewiring the drivers side to run continuous.

I just cut the bottom right corner alot, And the fan blades hit the ic pipe then so I hadto cut each blade down alittle bit until they wouldent hit it no more. It still works good until I get a slimfan. I only have the passanger side fan in, Also.

Well also have a 1g car but might be useful info for other 1gs.I cut a few supports off the factory fan and it was still too close and rather than trim blades I took off radiator upper support brackets and tilted rad back and inch or so and wiretired it up.Ghetto but it works for now and will get a slimline sooner or later. Also after I did all the fan hacking and cutting I found out you can clock the turbo so that might have let me avoid the whole fan hacking thing. Also my lower pipe is very close to fan and that was pain to get the lower hose on.Again clocking a bit might have worked better.

I was only able to use the drivers side fan too by just rewiring it. There just isn't enough room for both unless you ghetto rig it or get slim fans. One fan works just fine and kept my car cool even through the hot summer.

Clocking the turbo will make it fit. Just have to readjust the wastegate actuator arm.
If it's a PTE 50trim, when you clock it it will open the wastegate a little bit, so you will have to tighten up the arm. :thumb:

I had the same problem it was just too tight of clearance. Keep in mind though I have an aftermarket radiator also. So I went with the slimline FAL fans, $360 shipped to my door. I ordered mine through prostreetonline.com. I always thought these fans were only for the 2g's but they make them for the 1g's now also. And I was going to just get some cheap autozone fans but its not worth it. These FAL two setups are made specifically for our turbo cars and outflow the stock fans. Its a steep price to pay for some fans but well worth the money.

u have to cut alot of the fan shroud up to make it fit. and also if u have internal wastegate like me, i had to cut little tiny corners off of each blade on the fan so it would clear the wastegate when the fan turned. :dsm:

thanks for the replies so far guys.. really helps me to see my options..

maybe i shouldve been more specific with my setup

it is a pte 50.. no clocking of the housing.. and it is internally gated..

I already cut the tip of the blades and the side of the shrouding (stock fan/radiator) so it would fit and not hit the internal gate..

lowridin2g do you happen to have any pics of the fan after the hacking?

with cutting the shrouding and blades, i assume the stability, regidness, efficiency of the fan is reduced? anybody have any problems? if not im going to hack away somemore.. and maybe sooner or later get a slim fan.. but i need to have the car running asap..

ill take pics wenever I accomplish the task for reference..

i dont have any pics right handy but i can take some for you. just dont know when. my car sits under its cover in my driveway and its dark by the time i get home from work. but ill try for ya man. i have mad a couple track trips (almost 2 hours) since the install and my coolant temps do not get any hotter. so cooling effiency is the same. ill see what i can dig up for ya man :thumb:

this is really the only pic i have right now of any of the cutting. sorry

Wow, I am surprised there are this many problems with clearance. Last year or so when I was running an internally gated FP Green all I had to do was notch one of the guards on the passenger side fan.

If clearance it pretty close you can get a little bit of room if you slot the radiator brackets and angle the radiator towards the front of the car a little bit. Not sure if this works if you are running ac or not though.

I didn't have any problems with the fitting of my AGP 50 trim kit. I didn't get a heat shield however, and the heat melted my drivers side fan after a few weeks. I unplugged it and never replaced it and haven't had a problem since.
