So I just got a carpet that I pulled out of an eagle Talon and it has some stains on it, nothing that a little bit of cleaning wouldn't take care of. But what I want to do is dye the carpet black. the carpet I have in the car now is ripped and nasty so anything would be an improvement. Just wondering if anyone knows of how I can dye the carpet black if there is a way

ok thanks! seeing as tho i already have the grey carpet ill try to dye it the way you described. if it doesn't work ill just buy one like the link you sent me. thanks again

I wouldn't trust Ebay either for a flush fit carpet, that's why you buy from the link I posted :thumb:

I'm in for results as well. I'm not a fan at all of the gray interior. I'm looking to take my seats to a local upholstry shop to have them but a nice black cover on each of them and since I don't have any back seats (after the end of this weeks), I should save some pennies here and there.

What's up guys.. i got a question...

I took the Carpet of my "98 Gst and i need it black, but right now is super dirty and massive spots of stains everywhere, last owner took care of the car as in engine maintenance and exterior cleanup, but the carpet is very dirty.

So i took it out and im wondering if i can put it in a big Washin-Machine at a Laundry, and dry it same place at one of there drying machines.. because if i start scrubbing this now i will be done by next week LOL.. im also thinking of using Carpet spray dye..

Please let me know what you guys think about this, any idea would help alot, thank you...

Take it to the auto wash and spray it with engine degreaser then power wash it clean and hang dry... works amazing. I have grey and mine looked brand new when i was done.

I dont think a big washing machine would work.

Go to your local Wal-Mart, and buy about 6 cans of "Spot Shot" carpet cleaner. That will take nearly anything out of the carpet.

1. Spray Spot Shot on
2. let soak for a few mins
3. brush carpet
4. vacuum excess out

Check my blog for the difference it made in my carpets.

That is a good idea. The car wash would get most of the dirt and dust out of the carpet, then the spot shot would take the stains out. After that I would rinse it with a hose after that to get the chemicals out of the carpet prior to dying it.

Yes. this is my plan as for now. i will hopefully find a good dye that will stay on the carpet..

Thanks Again..

Wow bumping old threads again people.

I did this with my 2G carpet and never had a problem. First clean the carpet to the best of your ability. I powerwashed, steam cleaned, and used the foam carpet cleaner you can buy in the auto sections of most stores including Walmart. Then buy 5 boxes of RIT dye (black) from Walmart, a very large tupperware storage container, and a box of cooking salt. Put the hottest water you can get into the tupperware container, dump the entire box of salt and all the RIT dye into the warm water and mix thoroughly. Let the carpet sit in the dye and water mixture (fully submerged) for 2-3 full days. Finally remove the carpet, spray it down with a garden hose, and let it dry in the sun.

PS: For anyone wondering why the salt...it helps the dye absorb into fabric.

Yea its more of a mess and a pain in the ass then it costs. It costs like $30-$40 at Walmart if I remember correctly and the carpet looked brand new/didn't wear down or rub off. It lasted no problem through the winter when I did it. Let me know how it goes! :thumb:

so i just washed the Carpet really good.. i mean it looks so nice i feel like putting it back on liek that but nah, i want it black :D....

Next sunday ill have it in the Dye.. like you recommended.. hoep everything goes well..

and ThankS again.. :thumb:

No problem. Leave it in the mix for at least 48 hours. The longer the better and also get some rubber gloves and flip the carpet around the container at least twice so everything gets nice even coverage. I expect pics when its done. Also if you want you could buy an extra 1-2 containers of dye just to be sure. I was covered with what I listed but for the extra $6 its just insurance.

Don't forget, you can also use the power wash technique and then use vinyl paint. I did mine and it turned out like new. I have pics but will have to find and post.

Thats the cheap crappy way of doing a carpet. I did it first like that and it does rub off after time and it also makes the carpet hard and crusty. The dye actually penetrates the fibers in the method I explained and isn't just a mask overtop of the fibers. Do things right the first time instead of nig-rigging it.
