Can I adjust timing on 95 talon? To fix my emissions.

Well I have been having trouble passing emissions, I have failed twice so far. I have posted that I had very HC and a little high Nox. Well everyone said that I might want to adjust my timing because it's probably to advanced. I have the 95 so can I adjust my timing? I read some posts on here that says I cant. Just want to know what I should do.

In case you were wondering I have new: wires, plugs, fuel filter, ran fuel cleaner and seafoam. I also ran on stock boost, heated up the car, and half a tank of E85. After doing all of this I still failed emissions.

Not sure were to turn now. I know that high HC is unburned fuel. It could be faulty ignition system. Well what else should I check in the ignition system? A few people have said that I could get a new CAT.

I don't know if it would drop my HC as much as they need to be dropped.

Also, so you know I do have somewhat of a miss at idle. It's kind of a loopy sound. I'm not sure whats causing that.

Here are the results of my emissions test in case you want a look.

HC 3.30 (Actual) 1.2 (Limit) Failed
CO 8.49 (Actual) 15.0 (Limit) Pass
NOx 2.6 (Actual) 2.5 (Limit) Failed

I'm really lost on where to go from here. I have to get plates on the car really fast. This whole thing is really stressing me out. :cry:
 
Cam timing is not adjustable. Your only real option in this situation is to replace the catalytic converter. I have seen some cars with around those numbers get help with a new EGR valve but your converter just isn't doing it's job which isn't surprising for a 13 year old car. It wouldn't hurt to put in a new set of plugs either since you have run so many things through the combustion chamber. Get a set of NGK BPR7ES plugs and gap them around .028-.031.
 
I'd shove in BPR6ES for the time being - since they were the stock plug for this engine.

"7's" are a cold plug and around-the-town driving really is making the plugs run cold and not burning the fuel too completely - along with you being up in mile high country, that air is a bit on the thin side and your ECU is trying to keep things in the closed loop with the right A/F ratio.

Do the cat thing and make sure that your timing remains at the 5* BTDC doing the terminal grounding procedure.
 
Teah I'm going to change the plugs tomorrow as well as check the timing to make sure that it is set right. I'm not sure what I can do to it if it isn't set correctly though. I guess I'm going to go ahead and get the new CAT also.
