Can I adjust my FIAV?

I have a 94 Talon TSi and according to all the threads I've read about the FIAV it seems like my cold start idle is a bit too high. Currently my car will idle around 2400rpms on cold start ups then gradually work its way down to a normal 800rpm's onces its warmed up. I read the thread about completely closing off the fiav by cranking the plunger in till it seals off the fiav but I was wondering if I just cranked it in a few turns and not fully close it will that lower my cold start idle speed to a more reasonable/normal rpm? I've adjusted the biss properly and the car idles perfect once its warmed up. The only boost leaks I have are at the tb shaft seals but they aren't that bad. I will be pulling the tb off to clean it and change the shaft seals and would like to try and fix the high idle while I'm in there.
 

Thanks for the reply but I've battled idle surge with a previous dsm of mine. This current one doesn't surge it just idles higher than its supposed to when she's cold. From the threads I've read its supposed to idle higher than normal on cold starts but it seems 1500-1800rpms is the norm and mine is beyond that and leads me to believe that the fiav is out of adjustment. I just can't find any threads on actually adjusting the fiav or if it will even work. Mind you I live in new england so I don't want to completely block off the fiav and cause problems when the cold weather rolls around.
 
Adjusting it will be a very tedious trial-and-error procedure as erecting will be needing to be hooked up and taken Off until your idle is set properly. It'll more than likely only need a turn or two.

As what was said, start with the check list for idle surge. A faulty IAC or improperly adjusted BISS will cause some idle problems. If you have ECMLink the IAC needs to have a value of 30 at idle when warmed up.
 
Pop this freeze plug off the throttle body, and turn the black piece clockwise. That will lower your fast idle on cold starts.

I wish i would have tried adjusting mine before I blocked. Had some serious Idle surges and this was the eventual fix. Now instead of a high rpm warm up my dsm goes strait to 800-900 rpm. Its a little rough on warm up. Other than that I have no other problems.
 
I actually did this without closing it as well. It helped my cold high idle, and I have no problems what so ever.

Thats exactly what I needed to hear :hellyeah: Do you remember what your cold idle was before and after you adjusted it and about how much you turned the plunger in?

It should be at 1500rpm on warmup

Thats exactly what I've read in the numerous threads I've found about it and that would be perfect if I could get it there. I know my 2400 rpms cold idle is way too much.
