WOW I’ve never had so much ****** trouble with a part in my life....:banghead:
Ok so i took out all the bolts and the bottom bracket off the alternator and i just can’t position the ******* thing to drop down. I really don’t want to resort to taking out the axle because that’s what it seems like....
I’ve tried every possible angle to fit it through the bottom but it just doesn’t want to fit. I also tried to jack the engine up alittle to try and make some more space to fit it through but that failed :banghead:

Does anyone by any chance have any pics of how you took out the alternator?

This is really frustrating because I need my car to go to school and work.

Any help/advice/tips would be awesome!!

you have to take off your wheel first. then take off the plastic behind the wheel. there is 1 bolt holding it onto the block. Size 12 I think, could be 14....loosen that and you should be good....

Sorry i forgot to mention i already took off the splash guard but not the wheel the car is on ramps.

Just a thought try and take off your top motor mount, if it's not to hard. Then jack the engine up alittle more might give you the extra room needed. Also did you try searching the vfaq page on it. Sorry has been along time since I worked on a n/t eclipse so can't remember of hand the best way.

I lift mine up actually. once that bolt on the side comes off, there is one HUGE slider pin on the back lower part of the alternator. that has to come out too then u can take out the old ALT and put in new one

So if i take that off I can take the alternator out from there instead of dropping it down? (Through the axle and engine)

Yep, remove the passenger's side motor mount bolt, then jack the engine up as high as it'll go. The alternator will fit right between the engine, shock tower and firewall.

I have replaced my alternator without moving the engine at all. I just unbolted it and twisted it around until I got it by the axle

I had nowhere near this much trouble, All i did was jack the car up, I didnt take off my wheel or any of that.. Just had me under the car and my dad from the engine bay, we got it out within 20 minutes..

Same here, i had a buddy working on it from the top while i was working underneath and it came out easy i thought

Ok so i jacked up the car instead of having it on ramps and BAM in 5 seconds i took it out :hellyeah:

So the problem was that the axle just had to come down to make more clearance.

Glad we can help. Here is a tip. on the top of this thread, it says thread tools. hit that and hit resolved so peeps know it is fixed
