Dont know if this is the right place or not but here goes: I am trying to set the timing on my 95 tsi awd, 7 bolt, but the cams wont line up right. I am going to be replacing the timing belt tensioner and the timing belt. Any advice would help. If I posted it in the wrong place, please redirect me. Ill try to post a pic of the cams being off majorly. (like 10 teeth).

Thanks

If you are installing the cams have the dowel pins face up. Get the timing belt on the sprockets then line your marks up. I use zip ties to keep the belt in place. Then I line up the bottom. Make sure your crank is line up pretty close to where it needs to be. The crankshaft key needs to be about your 9:00 spot to be close. Once your timing marks are line up, cams:balance shaft belt: crank: oil pump I would rotate by hand to check your timing marks again.

Well thats just it. When I line up the exhaust cam, the intake cam is off. I was thinking the cam markings are off, but the dowell pins dont point to 12 oclock. Im going to follow the link and let you know how it turned out. Thanks for the help.

Put the intake cam dowel at 12 oclock. Then put the exhaust cam dowel at 12 oclock, it will require some torquing two teeth then clamp the tb to the exhaust gear.

Keep in mind there's two different timing marks on the gears

Definately going to try and crank it out tomorrow, Ill let you know by saturday how it worked out.

always check your tension in between two cams......and then always rotate engine clockwise two rotations on crank to double check that timing marks are lined up....hint!!!!!!!! replaced a bunch of motors and made a lot of money because people do not get the tension right on eccentric tensioner...be sure that is tight before pulling dowell pin out of hyrdolic tensioner....and always turn the motor twice

Good news bad news I guess. I got everything situated on, tb changed, everything lined up, crank position sensor changed, wp, tb tensioner and pulley all changed. Back to the future, I get everything ready, I turn it over and wont start. Fuel pump goes when I crank it over, batterys good, getting spark, was gonna check the asd and the fp relay, but for some ungodly reason I cant find them and to top it off, the ephrom pcm looks good. Im a noob to dsms granted, but I can read, I think, is there something im not understanding or has this happened to someone else. I want to get it back on the road but im spent. Any tips, suggestions, experience, about this?
