I usually get my parts from extreme psi, i'm building my head and am going with the bc 272's for my Hx40 build. On extreme psi they are $423 and on maperformance they are $360. Im just curious on why such a big difference, im scared to purchased from map because of the price being so much lower. Any imput?

My son is running an HX40 and he went with BIGGER cams. He had BC 280's with a 20G turbo (that is now on my car) and went up to BC 282 or 284, im not sure on the grind but he definately went UP with that big of turbo and is happy. You can PM him and ask him since he has a similar setup (pretty wild). Hit him up....its Black97spyder. He is very knowledgeable. :thumb:

Even for the a street setup you think 272's are too small? I don't really plan on going to the strip, maybe a few times. I just want a bada$$ car for the weekends

I think you would like 272's but not all brands of "272" cams are alike. When I go for cams I'm goung to go with Kelfords since I have read that they require little to no degreeing in. I was thinking with a Hx40 you were probably wanting to use that turbo for more than a DD. Check the lift and duration between the brands you are looking at and also lobe separation. Then talk to the cam manufacturer about the setup you have and your goals. They should be able to tell you the nitty gritty on their product better than me. 272's would be great for my little monster. What compression are you running?

I'm running the mahle 8:5:1, my car is a shell right now my block just came out of the machine shop, the head is there now; that's why I'm lookin for cams. I'm also on a budget and the Bc cams are pretty cheap compared to others.

+1^^ you sparked my curiosity. Lets see what they say. Depending on the response I may be interested myself

I contacted extreme last night with the question that jlog originally posted. In response they acknowledged that they previously offered those cams for moderns advertised price. Due to price increases from BC, extreme had to adjust accordingly. The rep gave me his guess as to possibly why moderns price is advertised as such, and respectfully declined to match moderns price. However, they did offer a better price.

Richard33 is running BC272's with pretty good results (9second hx40 fwd):

Not saying bigger cams wouldn't help. Just remember if you go any bigger, you'll need stiffer springs to support the cam, which obviously will raise the cost of your build.

Only thing I'm worried about is why they are so cheap.
360.00 is the correct price for a set of bc 272s. The 423.00 is too much. I run a set of bc272s and have been more than happy with them for several years now!
