I got my HKS 264/272 cams in today so I installed them. Everything was going great till I had to put the exhaust gear back on...was easy...but I got it on....now I start it and the engine shakes somewhat not like a WHOLE lot but some...that normal with cams? Or did I mess something up when I did the install??

I have a repair manual, but I didnt think it told how to check timing. The car driving great cept for the blown hole in my coupler. And it idles then lopes then idles good then lopes but I heard that goes away after heat soaking the engine.

Somethimes, my car would idle really lopey, sometimes you couldn't hear the cams at all. I just figured it varried a lot with small changes in idle speed. As fas as the shaking, there's always a chance the belt slipping a tooth if you installed them w/o taking the timing belt off, but you are probably fine if your only symptom is a little shakey. Cams will do that.
A hole in a coupler will also make you idle funny.
As far as setting base timing, unless you have a 6 bolt, I'm sure you're fine ;)

I zip tied the belt to the gear so I dont see how it could slip a tooth but I drove it and nuting messed up.....and the lope I heard it should go away after a nice heat soak not that I car I kinda like it just the engine shake I was scared about.. you no......

The hole is going to cause big problems, you should fix it or not drive the car.

That doesn't mean it's lined up correctly. Did you check the timing marks before you put the covers back on? Did you check the belt tension?

and the lope I heard it should go away after a nice heat soak not that I car I kinda like it just the engine shake I was scared about.. you no......

Why would the lope go away with heat soak?

Idk it doesnt lope anymore..... and it was after heat soaked.............. and no I didnt check my timing marks after it and the hole isnt a big problem and I can drive on it. Your thinkin of a huge hole letting air out it doesnt let air out unless I try to take off real fast and I cant fix it on a sunday since everything place that sells the part is closed..........

Even though you've zip tied the belt to the gears, by setting the gear down to low its possible the crank is off by a tooth. In fact, I've done it. Car still ran, but had about 2 in/hg of vacuum.

What's your vacuum at idle?

Well im getting those mounts cause I need better ones, so hopfully it wont be bad, now its really only when I dont have alot of gas that is it...... but ima do a oil change and stuff and check it out for a couple days and see if it is still there. But thanks yall
