cam gears removal problems

well i am trying to take the head off my car i removed most of the part i just need to take off the cam gears so i cam remove the cam shaft and the bolts and hopefully take off the head but i cant get the cam gears to pop out i tried holding the cam shaft but didnt work then tried to put a socket on the bolt in the back of the cam gear and didnt work is there a special tool of a easier way to take it off?

When you rotate the motor around to top dead center, you should see two holes in the cams. A 1/4" drive ratchet extension fits in there right nicely. You should be able to hold the cam with the extension in place and break the bolt on the cam gears loose.

Im not seeing why you need to remove the cams to get the head off the car. Properly remove the timing belt.

You shouldn't have to take the cam gears off get to the head, althought if you are chaning them to aftermarket ones or changing cams, then follow snipingkills's instructions with the extension.
