I have searched for the answer to my question but can't find a clear response. I have a 1g 1992 awd car. The CAS has been removed and needs to go back into the head. If the motor is at TDC does the notched end, on the CAS, go to front of the car or to the rear of the car as you're looking at the CAS from the passenger side? Also is there anything else that needs to be adjusted for the CAS install ie. cam position etc. I'll do a base idle timing after the car is running.

Thank you all for your time.

Phillip

You taking care of the cam position by putting the engine at TDC.
The notched end of the CAS needs to line up with the mark on the CAS body.

The install procedure in the manual is 3 items long. I don't know how much clearer a response one needs.

Perfect...That is the most straight forward description I think I could have received. What manual are you referencing?

Thank you,
Phillip

steve is right on the money, i just got done dealing with that same problem myself, as long as you are at TDC, and you align the CAS correctly no problems, the manual he used is not the Chilton's manual, trust me.....

There is only one manual, well actually it's 2-3 books, the factory service manual.

For cross reference reasons what are the symptoms of a CAS that has been installed backwards? Its been awhile since my car has ran but the last time it was running it was backfiring, wouldn't idle and overall ran like crap. After my post and finding out the proper way to install the CAS I just found my CAS was installed backwards.

Thank you again for the help,
Phillip

I recently installed a CAS on my car. I just noticed what angle my old one sat at at then popped the new one back in. Is that bad? My car runs fine. What would could it be causing bad? Is it worth taking it off and the getting TDC and line that notch up? Please let me know, i dont want to be secretely hurting my car and i didnt know it.

the car will not run if you are off, you just got lucky and it popped in in the right position.

Anyone know the thread pitch and diameter on the part that goes into the cam on a 97-99 CAS ? I am installing it on a 1g cam and need to know so i can let the machine shop know what size to drill and tap the intake cam.

Thanks.

What will the car do if it is off? I just replaced my head gasket and now i have no spark. so now i am thinking the maching shop i took my head to did not place the cas where it needed to go.

I wonder if the CAS was installed backwards, would it cause a no start?
If you suspect that to be the cause it takes less time than a typical reply here to check and make sure it's installed correctly.
