I will update profile to show current mod list.

I have searched and I am aware of the Idle Surge checklist, but I was hoping I could narrow it down by giving a description of the car's specific behavior.

  • No real idle surge when first start in the morning / cold engine.
  • No real bad idle surge when at full operating temperature.
  • In between those two states it starts but then goes down to like 400 rpm and either dies or surges while in neutral. Then, when I'm reversing out of my driveway or a parking lot, the rpm go down very fast and I have to keep feathering the throttle. When I stop to put the car in 1st gear, it will die. So I have to restart and rev a little, and then I'm good to go. Then after I have driven just for about 30 seconds or a short distance, the problem will only be minor and will not affect driveability.

Any suggestions on where to start if regular adjustment to a higher rpm doesn't work?

So your getting surge while the car is warming up? Say like the first few min while the car's getting up to operating temp? But once your up to operating temps it's fine? If so, the FIAV would be my first guess. If the issue continued when the car was up to operating temp, then I would look at the ISC.

A friend of mine had a idle surge we could not figure out to save us. It turned out it was teh coolant tem,p sensor to the ECU (the gage was reading fine) but the ECU thought the car was cold and when it was really hot it was idling at 2300 RPM..Just throwing that out there
