So my pass. rear caliper seized. I tore it apart for a rebuild. Heres what I found.
A lot I mean a Frikkin lot of rust and corrosion in the parking brake area (good thing my model doesnt have needle bearings there...)
"Pill (connecting link)" - HEavily rusted/corroded all over
"Spindle lever" - Heavily coroded all over especially in the pit
^^^ both these parts are essential for e-brake operation, and I think this is why the caliper seized
Also,
Piston has a bit of corrosion...
And of course the caliper itself is pretty bad...

So I am right in not wanting to finish the rebuild and buy some good calipers? eh?

And are mitsu calipers the same as plymouth for the rears? I want to get oem, but the last time i tried that, gsx had different rotors than the rs-t awd...

That thing looks toast man. by the time you clean all that up, everything will be pitted and loose-fitting.

I'd just snag a new one. I'm not 100% on which car gets which rotors/calipers, but I do know they have a lot of different specs depending on the year of the car. I'd make sure you give them all the info, dealerships will usually take the VIN to make sure they get it right.

Damn, that's a bad one! :ohdamn:

Autozone/Advance should have what you need. You would most likely have to order it since you have an older car. A trip to the local junkyard might even uncover a hidden gem or two as well!

You would actually spend more money rebuilding it yourself and getting it to good useable condition than just getting a newer one instead.

Im trying to find new/reman ones... only thing is.. both advance auto and autozone dont have the right rears available even for online ordering... Im starting to get worried. Autozone does have the left rear. (i need right rear) they do however have the SEMI loaded, which will replace the piston assembly, but not the other "half". Is my other half good to use?

Please tell me calipers are not discontunied yet!!!!

If these become too hard to find, what are some other cars that are swappable? other years?

The complete pic is my left caliper ( Ipulled it just in case, It works fine, and looks newer)

The other pics are the "second half" that I dont want to, but might have to reuse. Is reusing it an option (just the bracket side, not the piston assembly)

I checked Oemmitsubishiparts.com They "seem" to have them in stock. I will have to call tomorrow.

HELP ME FIND THESE MOFOS!!!!! please, thanks. :thumb:

(pics in order)
left side (functional)
Right side "reusable?" part
Close up of pin on above "reusable?" part.

I ordered by brake parts from netpartz.com . I just picked up 2 front 93 awd calipers for $40 a piece, with core cost included. They had everything for front and back last time I checked.:hellyeah: Partsgeek.com also has lots of stuff.

yeah its bad, you need a new one, but instead of buying a used one, consider buying one off autozone and give that one in for credit! in turn you have a lifetime warranty on your refurbished part.

Exactly What I was going to do. EXCEPT they dont have part # RC10311 which is the exact caliper that I need (complete and loaded) I love thier lifetime warranties!

So I need some other options. They do have the left one available, but I dont need that one.

Anything else beside my current plan?
Plan:
Call autozone or go in... (RC 10311) personally make sure they cannot order it.
Check (same part#) Rock Auto, ~same price. (its listed as ready to ship there)
Check OEMmitsubishiparts.com IS IT THE SAME CALIPER year for year?

If you can wait for the part to ship, rockauto.com has it for $60 plus a $25 core for a reman, or $75 plus a $10 core.

Any other parts stores in your area? If not and you need it up asap i think the only other option would be a junkyard trip. As for the bracket part, the only vital thing on those is the slide pins, as long as those move freely its fine to reuse. Kinda looks in your pics like the slide pins screw into it, so just get new pins and the semi loaded kit and you should be good.

I can wait...
I really wanted the raybestos because of this article:
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/art...t-lower-control-arms-dorman-vs-raybestos.html
And they are the same part # that autozone backs with lifetime.

But which ones did you see for $70?
Remember im AWD, right REAR...

Anyway, I have another car. Ill be ok. I hate impulse buying. It usually fails.
Im starting to think this integrated ebrake with rears is one of the alltime dumbest ideas of the auto engineering industry. I want some of what they were smoking...

-Cheech: Yo Chong, I got this totally rad idea bro!
-Chong: what is it mannnnn?
-Cheech: what if like parking brakes were like the same as braking brakes?
-Chong: pass the herb, Im not visualising this yet *puff puff cough cough*
-Cheech: you see, instead of using a dedicated system to like stop the car when its stopped, why not piggyback the system that stops the car while its moving?
-Chong: totally dude! Its like saving 2 trees with one hug. and it saves metal trees too!
-Cheech: *puff puffpuffpuffpuffpuffpuff, cough cough* yeah Ill call up mitsubishi and sell them the idea right away"
-Chong: Dont stop there bro you need to spread the peace mannn! Ill call Plymouth AND Eagle dude it will be like a radical revoloution evolution!

ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL

Napa has them all listed on their site. They're rebuilt OEM units. If you have one near you, call them up and have them order one for you. I don't think there's a difference between the rears on early and late 92 AWD's like there is on the front, but order accordingly if there is.

Check out one of our vendors ROCKAUTO there $ 68 bucks and, you have a few different brands to pick from. I just picked up a set of rear calipers for my 91 awd and they work great.

Ok thanks for the info. Ill try autozone for thier lifetime warranty. Then Ill call up ROCK auto.

Damn no one liked my cheech and chong skit... WTF

NAPA had them FTW Lifetime warranty on an OEM reman. Ill take it! Only gotta wait for shipping... but well worth it.

Did you actually call the vendors or just look on their website?

that caliper is also the result of lack of maintenance or lack or repair when a seal broke. My calipers are 22 years old and they look fine. They've also been rebuilt when seals went and the brake fluid changed regularly. Brake fluid is hydrophillic and must be changed periodically. It should be clean and clear. Most cars I see it looks like tea or worse black coffee.

The calipers and rotors are the same for the GSX as well as the RS AWD. I JUST replaced the pads/rotors on my 92 RS AWD, as well as rebuilt the rear calipers. it was a bi*** to make sure I had the right parts, as their computers aren't always correct.

My car has seen a lot of neglect. Not seen many miles at all. But the longer I own it I realize that its low mileage was a bad thing. I didnt see any breaks in the seals, the pins were fine, just too much sitting and water + debris must have gotten into the piston area, and Ebrake area.
Also for example, IDK if you saw my post about my front rotors... those were rusted/pitted really bad.
So now I have all new/like new brakes all around. I just rebuilt the other rear caliper (re greased, etc..) which looked to be in good condition, and painted it. less risk for rust.

I didnt have to call any vendors thankfully (I didnt wanna pay $20 to ship my core in to get my deposit back...)
I called:
Autozone: Their supplier didnt have it in stock.
Advance: Same ^^^
PepBoys: had to order, 1yr warranty
NAPA: Order from philly, Lifetime warranty, rebuilt OEM = Winner.
Didnt even have to call Rock auto, or OEMmitsuparts. (I have had good exp w/ rock auto before, I would have ordered from them if NAPA didnt have it)
