Ok so I'm finally going to do some small upgrades I'm going to buy my 1st cat back really soon probably next month I have about $600 save right now and I'm try to find out witch exhaust to go with ? I really want a exhaust that sounds really good with a deep tone and also one that tilts to the side I see them on Gsx & on my car Gst models how do you know if are buying one that leans or tilts to the side ? Someone at my job said that hks and greddy turbo cat backs dose that but I notice their is s bunch different types of greddy and hks exhaust so witch should I go with or look for please help

Its just really depends on what you want to do. Alot of people run the ebay 3in exhaust because its cheap and I have heard the exhaust and it doesn't sound bad at all. Then of course with the difference in price you can get some other goodies as well or you can spend more for a brand name exhaust. As far as the tilt I really can't help as I have never had one that did that. I have always had thermal exhaust and love it but it doesn't tilt.

Best way to decide on what is best for you is to hit up some of the DSM vender sites and find out what exhausts they've got, and then youtube them to figure out what sound you prefer.

Thermal R&D cat back, hands done one of the best sounding exhausts for the turbo models.

Agreed. I met a guy with a Thermal R&D on his gst. It sounded absolutely amazing. I also like how they angle the exhaust tip so it comes out straight instead of slanted. I WILL have one on my car...someday.

If your looking for an exhaust with a tilt the Megan catbacks have some what of a tilt and sound great. The HKS Carbon catback has a really nice angle but it's only made for the GSX.

I have to agree about the thermal catbacks, the sound is perfect, very deep and aggressive, but the tip comes straight out.

If you really want the slanted muffler style you could have an exhaust shop put an extra bend in your catback piping and adjust the hanger for your muffler. Just make sure its a mandrel bend so it doesn't affect the flow much.

Well I heard from other people never go cheap on performance and never by a eBay exhaust my buddy told me that he has a 99 Gs and he said I will regret it if I do so I wanted to buy something decent for my car good quality even tho name brand is very pricey

Well the hks dose have carbon version for Gst I check this morning on Cimotorsports.com and raceinspired.com and some other web sites but I can't remember the name ????

I youtube some videos last night and I heard apexi, greddy, hks,Megan racing sounds like very good tones coming from the exhaust but I haven't check thermal yet Ill look for a video so I can hear what it sounds like

I have 3" turbo back straight pipe with a magnaflow muffler and I love it. Has a keep tone and pretty quite when cruising.

A pipe is a pipe. As long as its stainless your fine. Know how much I paid for my 3" stainless catback? 135. Don't listen to people who say don't go eBay. That's absurd, unless the pipe is crush bent and not stainless. My exhaust sounds amazing. Picking up a 3 inch Downpipe tomorrow to finish it off..

Edit: some company's do have ways to ttweak sounds, like resonators. No matter what if your car is turboed its going to have a deep tone. My exhaust also has a burnt tip :D

I have to say that my Tanabe Sounds a whole helluva lot better than that thermal.

Maybe its the absence of the resonator? Every car I have heard with a thermal muffler also had a nice resonator as well.

I'm going to get the SR.S exhaust soon from eBay. Its full 3inch and there is a thread here on it, pretty good for the money. Going cheap because I want suspension and new rotors also. Some say it tilt to the side, but im not sure.

Would that be cheaper to just buy the muffler and get the down pipe custom made ? Hmm never really thought about that hahaha ill do some more research maybe I could find a muffler also with burnt tip hahaha I seen the greddy ti c with the burnt tip looks sick !

I just seen this same video hahaha yeah that's pretty good also I gotta check the price on one for shipping and taxes and stuff you said its In my budget ?

Yeah check the link I send with the vid. You said you had about 600 right? The exhaust is i think 556 on there. Also you can check on here in the classifieds. Got a steal on mine, traded a wideband plus a bit of cash on the side for mine.

The Thermal exhaust may sound better to some people, but I don't think it is worth the price difference over just buying an exhaust off of Ebay. I bought a Tsudo 3" cat-back (appears to be identical to the SR-S) off Ebay almost 2 years ago and installed it with my 3" downpipe and I couldn't be happier. It had perfect fitment and sounds good. Here's some pics and a video of my exhaust back when I installed them.

My eBay exhaust came with a real burnt tip. 135 dollars, can't beat it.

Also came with gaskets and bolts. Had to buy new hangars cause mine were shot LOL.

Is the hanger what holds the pipe and the muffler up ? I notice your Gst exhaust in your picture looks kind of tilted to the left is it ?

Yeah willing to spend about $500-600 or a little bit over for my budget

I'm just throwing an option out there I'm not saying get it. But why spend 600 bucks on an exhaust when u can spend 100-200 on one then get other goodies like a boost controller and a bigger turbo?

I have a stock Downpipe. I'm getting a bigger one this week. I have a 2.25 inch test pipe. The exhaust comes like tthat, I also had to manuevr it a little. I will warn you that one of my flanges didn't line up and had to cut and reweld it, they welded the flange wrong.

Are you dead set on a "catback" exhaust? I'm going to build my exhaust. I'm gonna get a 3" straight piece of stainless piping, weld a senator, and dump it right at about the back seats. Gonna cost about 45 or 50 bucks out the door. Just my opinion. I was gonna run open downpipe but decided to quiet it down a bit.

Normally I don't advocate ebay stuff.. but..

My DSM came with an HKS knockoff catback.. its been through 2 years of winters here and still together.

5years ago I bought a kyo ebay exhaust for my s13. It too fit perfect and held up the same..
