So I think I've potentialy found a car but being a dsm newb I don't. Really. Know. What. To look for

So here is what I know. 1993 eagle. Talon 2.0 16v non turbo automatic ( auto ### of my wife) 234000 kms
guy says needs. New water pump

So opinions? To many kms? ?

I have to agree with the others on the fact that if you get the car you will end up wanting to upgrade to either turbo or AWD. At that point you will have to spend even more money trying to buy another DSM.

Oh, forgot to add that I know someone who is in that same position. He has a 2G NT. He is now in the process of trying to sell his so that he can buy at least a GST. And throwing a turbo on a NT is not always an easy task in the long run. In my experiences that is.

LOL so what ## basicly saying rather then spend the money/weekend to fix this wait and buy a stock turbo'd car

It all depends on what your goals are for the car. You want a reliable daily driver? Go with the non-turbo DSMs. They aren't fast, but they're much simpler and cheaper to maintain.
Want a quick grocery getter that will be fun on the track or drag strip next Saturday? Get a FWD turbo DSM.
The AWD turbo is the top of the line and most complex, and likely most expensive, but will also lead to a high payout.

Again, depends on what your goals are. Choose a DSM flavor that suits you best.

I bought a '91 N/T DSM to learn on and get familiar with the 4G63 engine. It was a fun project (has turned into project again) and taught me a lot. From there I graduated to a '90 FWD turbo. It's a whole new ballgame and plenty fun.

I'd say go for it man!!! It's relitivly cheap for what it is (if the body really is in good condition) and you can slowly build what you want outta it. I got my turbo'd 92 eclipse for $700!!!!! Not running ofcourse, but with time and effort (and an extra $100 haha) I got a car that's fun and has more power than the previous owner knew ;) cheap cars are out there, just be careful and take or a drive before you buy it. (even if the water pump is bad, you can still drive it for a couple miles, expecially since it's N/A. Have fun with it and good luck!!!!

To the OP, lower the price to like 600 and pick it up. good DAILY DRIVER for sure. If it is only to teach your wife, I would do it. I wish I could find DSM N/T over here that cheap. By me, its 1500 for crap boxes ;(

Buy a honda! Than, save your money for a turbo dsm!

I don't know that I would go THAT far. If you are willing to learn I would recommend a DSM, however the speciman which you have presented to us is in need of someone with some knowledge of these car, and willing to spend the time.

I personally knew when I set out last summer to purchase my first DSM, that I was looking for:

A nice car
That was fast
Could go faster
I could turn into a project
Would be fun to play with at the track

I wanted to find a bone stock 1G Talon TSI (call me a gearhead, I like to point to my car and say, "everything that isn't stock, I DID). I located one nearby, but the guy wouldn't return my calls. Couple weeks later I stumbled upon my current DSM. A little more pricey then the other (the stock one was $800, this one ended up costing $2300) but was overall in better shape. The engine had been rebuilt after a kid blew the head, the car had been repainted 5 years prior. Mildly upgraded, if you are interested the mods are in my profile (they are current). Slowly I am adding the things that I want as money becomes available.

Long story short, know what you are looking for RIGHT NOW, and what you plan to do with it in future.

so i decided to pass that last one up

but have stumbled apon a 1995 eagle talon tsi awd 230, 000kms

with the following upgrades

MODS:
4- 750cc fuel injectors.
1 set of Pirelli P7000 summer tires with around 10km on them.
Apexi SAFC (Super Air Flow Converter)
Apexi N1 3 1/2 inch with 3 1/2 inch cat
16 inch factory rims
Turbonetics boost controller
HKS turbo timer
Walbro 255 fuel pump

I bought a 93 GS for 700 bucks and I love it. It is an awesome daily driver and got my foot in the door to the DSM world. I would buy it as a daily driver and find yourself a nice GSX later on down the road since your in Canada. Good luck with your decision!

For how much?? I wouldn't recommend this car for your wife, but yourself. :D Seems mildly modified. You're jumping into a world of unknown.

haha totaly agree hencce what im worried about the mods being done and not really being on the up and up of the whole dsm world

and pff yea would be for i mean me :p LOL

i think he wants 2000$ which seems to high imo

Chitown I was curious as well and did a Wiki search on the Canadian dollar, It is more confusing then anything Ive read before ha ha. But i did get that 37% of Canada uses the dollar. Sorry for the side note LOL
