Buying a DSM! Couple of Qs

Ok guys. I am going tomorrow to buy my 2nd dsm. It is a 92 Talon TSI. He said the motor had just been rebuilt and the head was ported and polished and the turbo was recently rebuilt. He said it will turn over but will not crank because the coil is bad. He said it gets spark and all but it isnt hot enough. I was wondering how can I confirm this? I trust that the guy is right, but I am driving a good distance and I dont have the money to rebuild anything if it isnt the coil, so what should I do/test. I dont want to piss the guy off or anything. He is asking $1500. Is this about right for what the car has? It is fwd, the clear coat is pealing on hood. I am excited about it seeing as I loved my old 90 GST, I just ran into alot of stupid problems with it.

First of all see if you have another coil to try on it. if thats not it possibly the power transister below the cam gears. Also if the spark plugs are getting spark its not the coil. I would look into all electrical componets that could cause the problem. With all those mods that it supposed to have and the body is good $1500 sounds cheap to me that I would really check it over good. Also ask for recipts and such to prove where the work was done.
