JDMAWD, I am very curious to see your "intake/charged air temps log" as you mentioned in July. Any chance that you could post some logs with intake temp difference?
I was doing a search cuz I see too much of intake air temp increase under boost. My filter is in the engine bay sucking hot air and I have an OLD front mount spearco top to bottom IC but I see too much temp increase. I've seen up to 10 degree F inc. while doing a 1/4 mile run.

Hope to see that log soon.

I just checked my log and the last run I did was.....

Lining up-Intake temp. @ throttle body-106 degree F
At the trap-128 degree F

Does this sound normal? I have no idea since I've never seen other people's number.

I have not forgotten, the car has taken a back seat for a minute. Work is SUPER busy, on top of b@tch issues.(women are amazing) I have not done anything since the car was put back together.

There is no way a VPC is CARB legal, but that doesn't mean you can't get through smog in CA with one. Just have to find a shop thats more easy on the visual part of CARB law-
Hell, hard intake/ic piping is illegal as far as CARB is concerned...

jdmawd, will you post some pics of what it looks like installed. I am about to order that piece and am wondering to where it actually goes in the fender.

its almost impossible to get the camera in that spot to take a pic. this is the best i could do.

dude, thanks a million! I just wanna make sure that the BR cold air pipe will work with the IRC race core....wanna make sure that the pipes will clear each other. There is no differnce between the street and race core as far as pipe clearance right?

the pipes are the same, you will have no problem at all with the race core.

What I wanna know is, does it actually make a difference to have the CAI at the track vs. having just a K&N and removing the headlight? I mean I understand how it is much harder for 1gs to remove the headlight, but would a CAI on a 2G be worth it since you could remove your headlight?

well no it probably wouldn't make a difference at the track, as long as you are feeding air directly to the filter. But for daily driving if you have it behind the headlight it is still going to be injesting those hotter temps.

Also, at the track with the headlight off one would probably want the shortest route possible...of course if you have a vpc then you can make a shorter pipe that would just sit behind the headlight and then remove the headlight for track racing. You could also build a box out of aluminum or carbon to help block heat, or even have the pipe curve around and have it close to the opening of the headlight so it is rammed with cooler air.

So yes it does make a difference.

street vs. track.

you arn't gonna drive around everyday with your headlight removed.

oh yeah, I just ordered that BR cold air pipe :D

absolutely, i have an intake temp gauge in the car i will post complete tuning logs once installed. im very curious about what my timing advance and knock sum's look like with intake/charged air temps much lower then normal. everything is scheduled to be installed next week, after that its straight to the dyno for a wide band tune

MuttedTSiAWD:

IM not sure it seems like buschur or anyone else could bend one for a 2g. for this particular piece, you need a vpc and a FMIC to make it work.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the Intake temp gauge from?

i got mine from a local speed shop, its made by autometer. dsm-performance sells them now to;)

>I have heard that those check-valves don't really like high pressure (a.k.a. turbocharging).
>The pressure will force them to stay open even when water gets in

Right… But there is no pressure in the intake pipe before the turbo...

The reason why it will not work is two fold:

1. There is VERY little room to fit it.
2. There is might not be enough elevation change to make such device effective. AEM relies on intake of the pipe being much lower than the exhaust. So when it usually goes to the TB, it is just fine, but turbo inlet is too low to the ground.

My advise: do not drive through deep puddles...

Do you want to remove the headlight on the street as well? The CAI is more logical but the purchase of a VPC is not going to be easy since it was discontinued.
