Burned out CEL?

My CEL doesn't flash on when I start the car. I just hooked up my buddy's comp and I'm throwing one code, so I know the light should be on.

Is it a bulb or an LED that lights up the CEL? Anyone know? Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas for getting it back on? I have inspection in a month of two, and I'll need it back for that I guess...

a bulb. and taking out the gauges is quite easy.

Anyone from New York know if you'll fail a state inspection with a burned out CEL?

You'll fail unless they are being stupid and forget to check for it. Go ahead and spend the $0.99 and buy a new bulb.
