Hey guys just checking to see exactly what crossmembers i have to remove to get the motor low enough to pull the front shaft?

Do i need to lower that gigantic front crossmember that runs east to west across the front of the car?

TIA

Actually being the Rear BS is hollow & pulls Oil Pressure straight off the Oil Pump one could theorize that the most Oil flow gain is from removal of the Rear BS Shaft & use of Mirage Stub Shaft - By leaving the Front BS Shaft in - the Bearing Oil feed is largely blocked by the static Front BS Shaft though not completely Blanked by any means.

if you are attempting this without removing the engine then I suggest just removing the belt on the front BS. because if you remove the shaft you have to knock out the old bearings and install new ones reversed.. and that could be a major PIA to do in the car..

but yeah remove the front and rear motor mounts and you MIGHT get enough room to get it out in the car.

well the vfaq says you can do it

maybe i should just contact tom stangl directly ROFL

i also have a bearing race removal kit - that makes things a little easier....i've removed both balance shafts from a motor that was out of a car.

I did it with the engine still in the car. From the perspective of a person sitting in the driver's seat, I had the left mount out of course, the front mount was unbolted and also the tranny mount was out. I had a jack to support the engine and raise and lower as needed. It's tight but definitely doable.

so you didnt remove any crossmembers? just motor mounts?

it sounds like you only removed the upper drivers motor mount and front roll stopper?

well i removed the left member and front member

got stuck for a minute...i guess that front bs pulley needs to come off before i pull teh cover....since both shafts are trying to come out at the same time as the cover

sidenote i can't find me bearing race removal kit...grr....must find my $40 toolkit!

Try the rear shaft.

I did my BS removal with the engine in the car. All motor mounts off, only transmission mount stays. Driver side crossmember goes. Then I had a big dude with a huge screwdriver prying the engine down enough to clear the top shaft from the body. The hardest part is getting the most inner bearing out and then back in. Good luck :thumb:

Yes, that was on a fwd though. You will most likely need to remove the driver's side crossmember on awd, but to get the oil pan off, that probably already removed.

Yep you do have to remove the drivers side cross member & pull the drivers side axel out of the bearing bracket assembly to get the oil pan off. I just pulled the oil pan off a friends car yesterday to check rod bearings.

P.S. Transfer case has to come out too.

As for removing the B/S with the motor in the car, i was woundering the same.

yeah everything is off the car....front cover and rear BS are out. I have the left member and front member disconnected...i think i need to disconnect the rear roll stopper yet...funny I talked to tom stangl about it...somehow he seems to get them out without the rear roll stopper disconnected...
